Don't live in FiDi if you want to have any fun outside of work. There is pretty much nothing to do down there, and it's gotten especially bad during COVID. I would suggest North Beach for people first year banking analysts moving to the city. It's an easy walk to the office, and there are at least bars around. As a first year analyst, I liked being close enough to the office that I could decide to head in at a moments notice to do work. It also helps on the way home, that you can either walk (to get some fresh air) or Uber in less than five minutes). Once you become a second year analyst and start to be faster at your work and can plan your days better, I would suggest the Marina / Cow Hollow / Russian Hill. It's still walkable to work if need be, but there are also buses that you can use to get to work, and there are more fun bars and stuff around to take advantage of.

North beach and russian hill are the closest and better options. New apartments in soma are really neat, but they're a bit far. Definitely worth checking out though.
