I think it depends on personal preferences. PM at a shop I worked at couple of years ago used to live in NJ because he wanted a large house. Senior guys / PM at place I recently worked at lived in large apartments in some of the best parts of the city. Personally I would still live in the city if I get to that stage because I've just lived here for most part and didn't like the time I lived in the suburbs so I guess it really depends on preferences
