Where should I transfer to from Fordham for IB?
Currently going to be a sophomore at Fordham University Gabelli School of Business. I want to transfer to a better school. Fordham does have a decent alumni network. On LinkedIn I can find at least a few alumni in each of the bulge bracket banks but I know it’s going to be tough to get in. I’ve been networking a decent bit over the past year and I have a few leads on some possible internships during the school year. I’ve connected with someone who can try to get me into a boutique but there’s only a chance if everyone comes back to the office because they can’t train virtually because of COVID. Got an interview coming up not IB but finance related. I have a 3.44/4.0 GPA, 1420 sat (770math,650english), in all the finance clubs, and currently interning at a small financial advisor in my hometown. I also got into the GS insight program but that’s nothing huge. I think this and the rest of my resume shows a pretty strong interest in finance/IB. I really like the city but feel like my chances at Columbia and stern would be slim. I’ll try to apply anyways. Financially my parents are well off and would be able to afford college but I did get a decent amount of scholarship/finaid from Fordham (Paying about half total cost of attending right now). Where else should I try to transfer to? Any tips?
Are you saying transfer after sophomore year? Recruiting is late sophomore year and sophomore summer, so that wouldn't help you at all
Wharton. Like The Donald.
What if I don’t have a daddy that can get me in though?
Speaking from experience, even if you had legacy you wouldn't get in.
Got into NYU stern as a transfer not going but seems like they took a lot of kids, one kid in my school got in as well and he probably doesn’t know what IB stands for
Where did you end up going and where did you transfer from?
NYU/Rutgers/UNC/Any Ivy p much/Georgetown/Duke/MIT/UVA/Indiana/U Mich/Texas/Liberal arts route
Get Rutgers off this list
I only put it on because of his/her GPA and since (s)he is already in NY. I go to an actual target on this list.
As a transfer myself, I can tell you right now that your chances of upgrading to a better school are extremely slim. With a 3.44, it's hard to convince a target school that you're ready for/need more challenging academics when you can't even excel at your current school. Especially transferring after Sophomore year, it's going to be very difficult to build a network at that point. I would just make do with what you have. You're in a better situation alumni-wise than I was at my old school.
Cornell lol
Hidden gem of Fordham is their Masters in Engineering 5 year program which they have jointly with Columbia University. See if you can apply to that. You get an undergrad degree from Fordham and a Masters in Engineering from Columbia at which point you can apply to any IB. I can tell you right now Engineering degrees are much better received than "finance" or "business administration" degrees. If you want the Columbia name, for a Fordham price, and in less time that's your best route.
