Where you go to school matter? (Accounting and Big 4)
Hey WSO, first time posting. I didn't see an accounting sub forum so I decided to ask here. I have a question and that is, does where you go to school for an accounting degree matter in the eyes of the Big 4. I live in Canada, and go to a college, the recruiting last year for the big 4 came from our big university (UBC) around 10 or so, followed by 4 from the second most well known school (SFU) and then 3-4 from either technical schools, community colleges etc. What I really want to know though, is if my GPA is very strong, and I attend some networking events where the big 4 come, do I stand a chance at getting a job there? Does school name carry that much weight in determining a proficient candidate? I don't know how picky the big 4 is.
Thanks.
I've heard that it's really not too difficult to get a Big 4 job from a decent school with an accounting program... I've heard
the big four does place some emphasis on school name but not to the degree of IB or consulting firms. i know for a fact that acc firms have target schools that they recruit heavily from. i believe.as a result of being at the tagret school kids can get by with a slightly lower gpa then nontargets (i kow kids at targets who got interviews with a 3.1 gpa.
if u have a strong gpa and network well u have a great shot. pm me if u have any questions
10 people from your biggest school? Just 10? Really? Are you talking about one department in one of the Big 4 firms alone, or across the board?
The Big 4 hire something like hundreds of people from my alma mater (regional/non target) every year.
Somewhat, but they are looking for flagship state schools that feed into the F500.
Illinois, Penn State, UT Austin, BYU, UMich, UW Madison, and the like. They are probably going to recruit less from UW Whitewater.
UBC trumps SFU.
Then again, McGill and UT trump both.
big4 is ez. op should just chill
Transfer to a target
Big 4 like people from lower-ranked schools because they can pay them less and they're happy to take jobs doing audit in smaller markets. Wharton grads aren't exactly excited to go do state and local tax accounting in Pittsburgh.
From what I understand, although I haven't confirmed it through Linkedin, there is a director in the PwC Chicago office who has an undergrad from University of Phoenix.
^^^^^what a boss
No but grammar is important.
