Which book should i start with? Which path to take in real estate?

There's quite a few threads on what books to read, but I was wondering what book should I start with? I'm looking at Linneman's or Geltner's book.

I have no experience in this field, and I'm only studying for the CFA Level 1 right now. I still don't know which path to get into? I don't know what I like, commercial or residential/multi-family? Is it good to stick with only 1 niche?

I'm hoping either of these books will give me a good foundation and help me figure out what kind of real estate I want to get myself involved in.

I think you should start with: why do I want to get into real estate? What about real estate interests me? Are you sure you even want to get into real estate? Why are you taking the CFA?

Do you want to be a broker? Do you want to work for a developer? Do you want to manage real estate assets or acquire them? Do you want to work in the capital markets space of real estate and arrange financing? You need to figure this out.

From there, learn to network. How old are you? If you're in school, use that as a launching pad to meet with real estate professionals who are alumni of your university. Do your research and ask lots of questions about what they do.

It sounds like you're taking an academic approach to this, which I think is a mistake.
