Which internship? - Sophmore year at a semi-target
Hello everybody,
I just finished up my sophomore year at a semi target and now am trying to choose an internship which will best position me for IB recruiting next year. I'm trying to decide between two internships - one is a credit analyst position at a commercial bank where I would essentially be doing loan work and the other is at a startup incubator where I would be doing all the bookkeeping, forecasting, and budgeting for a very large event. I would also be pitching to large companies to get them to sponsor the event. So overall, probably 40% financial work and 60% marketing work.
Although the startup incubator internship sounds more interesting, would it be in my best interest to take the commercial banking internship if I want to get into IBD next year?
Thanks in advance.
Commercial banking internship sounds more applicable. Is it at a big bank?
Union Bank in California. You think that'd better position me for IB? Thanks for your help
Commercial banking internship definitely seems more relevant to your long-term career plans. If you're strategic, you might be able to do some decent networking there - some of the senior guys may have spent time at other larger firms. But the startup incubator could be cool too, even though it seems like the job is just plain event planning, which doesn't sound like it's challenging or a good learning experience. May I ask what the name of the startup incubator is?
definitely commercial banking.
Thanks fellas. I appreciate it. Will a sophomore commercial banking internship be looked upon in a good light in regards to IB recruiting? Obviously more so than not having an internship, but is this seen as better or worse than a PWM internship or a boutique/mm internship?
PM'd you victory.
I would say better than PWM and worse than boutique IB. Its June and you dont have other offers, take it and run.
Who are the partners at the VC incubator?
Looks like commercial banking it is. PM'd you heister.
Contrary to everyone else, I would suggest going for the startup incubator - it may be unconventional as a banking route, but it will differentiate you vs. the competition. Personally, I'd rather interview someone who seems interesting, rather than yet another try-hard overachiever. Also, a lot of the work will be team-based and project-based, which is highly relevant to IB.
I agree with the above.
