Which job offer is better?
Need help deciding between two job offers.
The first one is for a credit investment analyst position at a 30 billion dollar AUM fund. The analyst program here is brand new and the program is not as formal or structured as the more established analyst programs at banks, for instance. I will get the chance to rotate between groups and cover 2 to 4 industries. I heard negative reviews about this company saying it has a high turnover and that it is a toxic workplace. The pay for a first year analyst is 75,000 dollar per year with additional bonus potential. From a reputation standpoint, it is not as well-known as other funds of similar AUM such as Citadel, but it is well-known within structured credit.
The second job offer is for a credit analyst position at one of the newer, smaller credit rating agencies. It is a growing company, and the culture is significantly better here compared to the culture at the credit investment fund, in my opinion. In addition, I believe that my training and overall experience here will be more structured than it would be at the credit investment fund. While on the team, I will be able to cover corporations within all industries. It is a very lean team that will give me a good amount of exposure. The pay is 60,000 per year with up to 10% bonus potential. And the online reviews of this place are significantly better than the online reviews of the investment fund.
Also, these two offers are for my first job out of college. I want to pick the one that will set me up for a better career trajectory in the future and will look better on my resume. At first, I was leaning towards the credit investment fund because I want to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment and be able to make investment recommendations in addition to the credit analysis work. However, I am deterred by the seemingly worse culture and the fact that the training might not be as structured or formal as the one at the credit rating agency. Would having a more structured training and experience look better on my resume?
