Which offer should I go with?

Hey guys,

I currently have received FT offers from a F50 for their FLDP and a Real Estate Investments offer from Northwestern Mutual, and I'm having a difficult time deciding which to go with. Normally, I would pick the FO offer; however, given that the FO position is at Northwestern Mutual, is it still worth taking over a F50 FLDP (I believe that it is one of the top 5 FLDPs).

I would appreciate any opinions and insights on this. Thanks!

Northwestern Mutual has debt and equity, probably along with support roles. So kind of depends on the position.

But they have a $50B portfolio, per their site. As expected, more of a debt shop focused on long term loans. No matter the position, it would probably be an actual real estate function, so I wouldn't turn it down just because of the firm. They are going to compete with all the other life cos.

No actual experience with the firm, so take that with a grain of salt.

Thanks for sharing! Based on the 2 offers, I was wondering which offer should I take for the most career flexibility and exit options (I'm an undergrad student and am not too sure what I would like to do in the long term).

Hard to say. You haven't been descriptive about the actual jobs you would be doing. Flexibility of exit ops is usually based on transferable skills.

Generally, I'd say finance is pretty broad and you could exit to a bunch of other finance roles, whatever they are. Not sure if any of them would be interesting or not. Probably could exit to different industries, but not sure. I hear people complain about "being suck in the back office." But I can't relate.

Real estate is a big industry, you could exit into a bunch of different roles, if you gained good skills. Might be harder to get outside of RE, though. But I know people who started at life cos and went to banks or large PE firms, even changing functions and going to REIB. Depends on your definition of flexibility of exit ops.

I think once you find out more about the actual roles you will be doing, you will know which position to take, or at least be able to ask specific questions.

Thanks! so much You're right. I gotta focus on the specific job as opposed to just the name of the company.
