Think more about what you want to do in the future before going into either path. Both will suck and you will want to leave in a year, so it's about finding one that sets you up to do what you really want to do.
this. and i would add that specializing in FIGs will result in an even narrower skill set (could be good or bad) given the nature of the business model.
I worked in FIG and recommend against it. Even though it was great experience for my role afterwards, I was chosen over or not even interviewed for some other jobs because some companies just don't work with banks/insurance companies that often (despite the fact that part of my role with the FIG group was to review credit exposure to ALL industries on a deal by deal basis, it didn't matter).
I want to become the CFO or director of a bank... I don't know if starting off in auditing financial institutions will lead to that, but I hope so.
