Which OTC products still trade using the voices dealer machine ?
The general trend has been pointing to electronic based trading within the OTC market. With that being said, what products are still trading via the voices dealer machine at the IBs ?
I’m mostly Interested in fixed income & Interest rate products/ derivatives. Repo included.
most small size trades in swaps and treasuries all go thru electronic streaming quotes venues / TradeWeb, etc...however, most large size trades (the largest 5-10%) are done via voice, and don't think that will change in the near future until liquidity in the electronic screens matches the sizes that buyside traders transact at.
For example, if the screen for 10yr notes (the most liquid rates security) shows 100mm on the bid, and 75mm on the offer...and a customer asks the dealer to offer 1 bln...that will usually be done via voice. However, for a 25mm 10yr trade, that can be handled by the autoquoter / autohedger, and a human never has to get involved
