Which school to attend: Fordham, Baruch, or Adelphi?
I am currently a senior at a high school in NYC. I recently received acceptance letters from Fordham, Adelphi, and now I'm just waiting for notification letter from CUNY Baruch. My goal is to obtain the front office position from the bulge bracket banks, such as JPM and Morgan Stanley. I will try my best to transfer to Columbia or NYU during my sophomore year, but in case I failed to transfer to these top tier schools, which school among the three should I attend so that I might have a slightly more chance to attain my dream position?
Thank you so much for taking time to read my post and answer my question :)
I would think Fordham
Fordham most reputable of the three. Would also imagine they have the most alumni on the street, of the three
Just from browsing linkedin; Baruch if you get in to the financial leadership program or CUNY honors program. I would think they are all equally good for the money though.
Baruch is where front office dreams go to die. Do not choose Baruch if you want to work in front office Investment Banking
My buddy studied finance at Baruch and ended up interning at BB BO.
Why?
Dont listen to these guys. To be completely honest they are ALL non-target territory. Only a few kids get sent to BB/EB/MM etc (if you check Linkedin). There are no OCR for front office positions at any one of these schools. More so Baruch. Maybe one or two respectively each semester. However, just know either way you have to do a tremendous amount of networking at any one these schools anyway. In Baruch you at least have the advantage to be in the city right next to CS. You may run into bankers there all the time. Its all preference at the end of the day. Check these threads below, you may get a better sense. Goodluck!

I'm surprised you're getting MS. nothing you said was wrong
Why didn't you just apply for Columbia/NYU to begin with?
I did and got rejected. Sadly my SAT was too average (2080)
I would assume he applied and didn't get in ... were your grades bad ? Some more info. Out of the 3, if I were looking at it, it wouldn't make a difference since they're all around the same territory
Fordham has been placing decently well into FO and has stepped it up greatly in the last two years. Opportunities definitely available for strong candidates.
Having been in the same position as you I can attest that Fordham is a wiser choice (given you are willing to make financial choices).
1) Firstly, Adelphi should be out of the discussion completely but all three schools aren't your ideal location for FO recruitment.
2) Baruch, while it is a great value for the money and does have some recruitment to FO (few kids at GS/JP every year) - you will get lost in the mix. Don't get fooled by a lot of diversity candidates that make it there. If you are a model minority like myself, let's just say it is quite impossible to stand out. But if you do choose to go there, bring your A game in an overcrowded school. There are stellar kids at Baruch but having spent a lot of time with them, it is a very small number compared to the large clueless crowd of Bearcats.
3) Fordham. I have a bias because I go there but trust me, I have made a huge financial sacrifice despite getting a full-ride to Baruch. Fordham's business school is much smaller and more collegiate and close-knit. Alumni are always willing to bat for you and we send 5-10 IB analysts every year (while the number sounds small, it is a good chunk of the motivated finance/econ students at Fordham). The numbers are increasing every year and the reputation is far exceeding its once "Jesuit liberal arts" reputation. Also worth noting: New, improved and large scale Manhattan business school is being built.
If money is not too big of an issue, you can never go wrong with Fordham. Baruch is a value-purchase, Fordham is a long term growth-purchase.
Hope it helped!
Baruch would be a much better option in my opinion.
You have to consider college as an investment and no offense but you would be doing yourself a disservice spending all that money at Fordham (approx $45,000 vs $6,000 tuition in state!!). As has been stated before both schools are solidly in the non target territory (3rd tier) so it really comes down to internships. Both schools have solid OCR departments - speaking personally Baruch has a lot outreach with JPM & BOA rotational programs through its STARR program. The name of the game is internships for real world experience especially when it comes to non target schools.
Neither Fordham or Baruch will really do it terms of separating you from the pack of applicants for the position your going for. You will get a second chance to go to a pricey school either in your transfer sophomore year or in grad school so why take on more debt unnecessarily for a school that's not really going to do it,
Good Luck in your decision.
Fordham. I go there and we have an IB society and a lot of them get internships in the industry to be honest.
A lot of my friends landed FO internships at Baruch. As long as you work hard, you can get where you want to go.
Columbia > NYU > Fordham > Baruch
News from someone?
Fordham, hands down. The top students here no doubt get great FO roles. And I would also like to mention we do have OCR here. We are givin a few spots at GS/CS/JPM, obviously for the best students. And Alumni are more than willing to bat for you, which I know first hand. If you can afford it, is choose Fordham. (Currently a rising sophomore, was in your shoes last year).
You suggest it for the MS in Finance as well?
I'd go to Baruch and transfer out after a year to NYU or a semi-target. You could do it with your 2080 SAT. You'll get the same type of freshman internships coming from Baruch or Fordham (or any school, for that matter).
If you didn't make it into said colleges, it's likely not because of your "average" 2080; that's a completely fine score unless your breakdown is awfully writing-based... I landed tons of schools with a 2220 as well as my friends in the 2000-2100 range; consider toying with your resume and other academic stats...
