Which Tablet do you use?
I am looking at buying a tablet pretty soon. I have always been an apple guy but I have been looking at the Galaxy since it has a stylist pen and can run two apps at the same time. What do people have and/or recommend?

Galaxy Tab (older-generation one) here. Slightly laggy on account of its age, but no complaints on the whole.
Android or bust.
Apple is always reliable.
iPad. Simply cannot beat it. All this gimmicky stuff Samsung keep coming out with on their phones and tablets is a waste of time. Realistically you aren't going to be doing anything highly productive on ANY tablet so these split-screen apps and pens aren't worth it.
Tablet Computer Advice (Originally Posted: 06/18/2011)
Lads and Gals,
I am thinking of making a major change to my computer setup. Throughout college I used a Macbook Pro connected to an external monitor. I also have a Kindle DX which has been awesome to crush through books and pdf.
However, post grad I am thinking of moving to a desktop + tablet combo. I already have a powerful desktop which is necessary to do some of my offwork research work in Excel/Matlab. I want a tablet for when I am traveling or being out and about (say watching a tv show while in bed).
Anyone try the tablet + desktop combo?
As for tablets, anyone have any opinions on the Samsung Galaxy 10.1? It plays Flash and when I played with it at the store it seemed cool. Apple has that damn fanboi premia I prefer not paying so open to suggestion.
Thanks.

I am not talking just about hardware. I am talking about the user experience. How is the user capability? How is the app store? Any perks (say does it play streaming DIVX movies on websites)?
Jailbroken iPad is best bang for buck. If you are mildly intelligent you can use flash on it and get all apps for free -- which makes up for fanboy premium.
Most illegal streaming sites have divx and flash versions. As far as I know, divx isnt provided with any jailbroken apps. Ps i have desktop ipad combo. Also have wireless keyboard and mouse for ipad in case using intensivly
*bluetooth wireless keyboard mouse
Maverick> Thanks for the info. How did you get your jailbroken ipad? Do it yourself?
Jailbreaking an i device is very very very easy to do. If you know how to read and follow directions, it shouldn't present much of a problem at all.
Android is android, common app stores - the difference is the bundled apps the tablets come with.
Jailbraiking an iPad is very easy, just google it.
Personally, I'd go to CompUSA or TigerDirect or some store like that and try them all out. You can always buy one/return it, (repeat) to find which you liked the best,
Jailbreaking is the easy part. (Just google it) The more difficult thing is fully utilizing a jailbroken idevice. You will have to familiarize urself with sshing and get into communities such as xsellisze, and sinfuliphone, installous. Prob take 10-15 Hours to fully understand what jailbreaking can do for you. I mean I can dl movues and songs that are just released and watch them instantaneously or wirelessly transfer them to desktop, tether my iPad so I can use its internet connection with any other device (at no extra cosr from att and vz),...etc.
That's interesting. The one thing I like about android is the customization ability - it's very easy to customize and change ROMs. Installing a torrented app on an android device is pretty much 'copy to device...install...installation completed'
I haven't jailbroken an iPad or used one extensively so I can't really compare the two.
Root your kindle and install android.
Thank you
Nvm not sure if rooted Kindle dx can get android. Might only be colored versions of Nooks and Kindles
Yeah, you can't put android on a kindle. Rooting is basically enabling superadmin privileges on an android device.
My mom has a kindle. Awesome screen, it's pretty much ink! Easily my favorite e-reader.
Yeah I think only fully touch screens like the Nook color can support Android.
Maverick and co> Thanks a ton for the info. I am actually going to jailbreak my itouch (out of warranty already) to play around with the apps and get a feel for it. If I can jailbreak an Ipad and get these capabilities, might be the move to make.
As for Kindle> I can't recommend it enough. I typically run through 2-3 books a week plus a ton of pdfs. Makes my life (and eyes) much easier.
Perfect. If you have an itouch play around with that and familiarize with those two communties i mentioned.
