White Culture vs Black Culture

Been thinking about this for a while, then I saw the trailer for a documentary that is being made (on Starz?) about black students in a white school.

Made me think, what are the actual definitions of white culture and black culture in a business sense. With any race, it is culturally inaccurate to lump everyone together just because of the way they look. For example, not all people from Asian cultures are the same, just as black families who have been in the US for generations are different than black families coming here for the first time.

I guess my question is two fold, what are the differences in culture, and are the atmospheres at schools/in business specifically white?

I think it's less about race and more about socioeconomic status..

I'm black but I relate way more with asian, white, south asian and other black middle/upper middle class kids than stereotypical black culture. It's just much rarer to find other UMC/MC black kids hence why my circle of friends is mostly the former.

There is no definition. Hood black culture is derived from Southern hillbilly culture. MLK was a huge conservative and would look down on modern day black culture.

I have listened to a lot of Thomas Sowell he is good to listen to on these sort of topics.

This is just my opinion so don't get mad if you don't like it.

I think it is more about the mindsets between different races. Were I have grown up I see that people who are black tend to think there is some magic wand waving around preventing people us from getting ahead. That really isn't true if you see many successful black people and people from all races have gone from rags to riches. You have to work hard to achieve what you want to in life. If you look at the story of Jeremiah Hamilton he was born in Haiti in the early 1800's he made a fortune of $40 million dollars today. How is possible for a black man before slavery being abolished become so successful an earn that much money. I can go into talking about Tulsa,Oklahoma how it was so successful.

Many black rappers who grew up in poorer neighborhoods have said when they move back everybody wants a handout because they think that they have helped them all the way through their life to get where they are.

When immigrants go to America they go thinking that they can become successful and gain enough wealth to be able to live a good life. Also the introduction of welfare systems has caused people of not just black but also white people to become dependent on the government and are not motivated to want to work because why work if I am getting free money. Also you this big uprising of millennials and Gen Z who want the government to give them everything that they want. That is not the point of the government.

  1. This thread will not be intelligent

  2. As you said yourself, there are not overarching "business cultures" by skin tone.

All you're going to get from this thread are stereotypes, generalizations, and dog whistles. Focus on things that actually matter.

Part of the question is when do generalizations/stereotypes blur into the truth.

the part is what defines culture.

None of that has anything to do with business - all you're going to get is some nonsense about black people being "hustlers" and spending all of their money on cars instead of ETFs from a bunch of 18 year old white kids who jerk off to Gordon Gekko.

There are ways you can discuss race intelligently in a business setting, especially in relation to Wall Street and Ivy League schools where there are distinct benefits (minority hiring) and disadvantages (being a minority) to not being white. However even in those threads, when the topic is intelligent, the discussion quickly devolves into stupidity. How do you think a thread about "when cultural stereotypes blur into truth" will end up?

Won't dive too much into it, princepieman is right.

Don't wanna come off as some guy with wisdom. Originally from a 3rd country (with one of the worst dictators), moved to the west. Family also moved up in socioeconomic terms. Had the privilege of hanging out with kids of all colors, most major religions and from upper middle class to bottom.

In my opinion, it's the environment one is born into and the mentality they develop from it. It just so happens some environments and mentalities are heavily represented by some races/religions in certain geographies.

Judging by race simply doesn't make sense. Black in the U.S can differ from those in Asia, Russia and Africa. Same goes for whites and browns in different areas. Not refuting the fact that race is a contributive factor, I believe its one of the smallest factors.

Absolute truths don't exist... celebrated opinions do.
