Who Beat Up Harry Reid?

Any speculation, monkeys? Sheldon Adelson's goombahs, democrats pissed that he literally got nothing done in the last congress or the lame duck, Obama's ppl given his recent comments regretting Obamacare and horrific failure to lead at the midterm, Russians? It's fairly obvious that, like the John Kerry black eyes a year ago, this has nothing to do with malfunctioning exercise equipment...

He's 75. You're thinking about those injuries in terms of what would cause them in you, a healthy 20 year old.

Really? I'd think being able to pain the republicans as so violent and small minded they'd attack an old man over a political difference would be a wonderful soundbite to hit the GOP over the head with. Stop reading so many damn Tom Clancy novels.

haha not sure who Tom Clancy is...

but no, I doubt if it was Republicans involved. Seems more likely his own party just shit all over him since they're completely screwed with all sorts of appointments and legislation now (7-2 SCOTUS anyone?). There's literally almost no way that that injury pattern is consistent with a dreadmill malfunction, esp at the speeds that old codger would be running. Then again, I think the Boston marathon thing was all faked, so what do I know?

In your expert opinion, what injury pattern would be consistent with his reported cause?

The literary equivalent of a John McCain and Michael Bay collaboration.

The third dumbest thing I've heard in awhile.

Worst case he'd have some minor bruising on the palms of his hands and knees if the belt completely came off and he fell onto the rollers. I suppose if he was a sub 5:30 miler he could have also bumped his head on the panel, but there's almost no combination of events that results with him both fracturing his face and breaking ribs... that just sounds like a good ol fashioned ass whoopin'. I'm not a treadmill expert, but I am qualified to opine on gettin your ass beat down.

Once again, you're imagining those injuries on yourself, not a 75 year old.

http://www.cdc.gov/homeandrecreationalsafety/falls/adultfalls.html

"Most fractures among older adults are caused by falls. The most common are fractures of the spine, hip, forearm, leg, ankle, pelvis, upper arm, and hand."

"Falls are the most common cause of traumatic brain injuries (TBI). In 2000, 46% of fatal falls among older adults were due to TBI. In 2011, about 22,900 older adults died from unintentional fall injuries."

We're talking about falls on stairs, getting up from a couch, off the toilet, walking to the kitchen, slippery surfaces etc. Not snowboarding and going down after a 30ft drop or getting pummeled playing football. I slipped on some hardwood stairs the other day and had no problem. If an elderly person had the same fall, we're talking a broken hip, fractured spine and who knows what else.

"Adam Jentleson, the senator's communications director, told the Associated Press that the accident occurred when an elastic exercise band broke and hit Reid in the face, causing him to fall. As the senator fell, Jentleson said, Reid struck part of the equipment and broke several bones near his right eye. Reid then hit the floor and broke his ribs."
