Who trades nat gas in Calgary?
I was wondering which firms/banks trade natural gas, physical and derivatives. I know that BP, GS and the like do but looking for other names, thanks.

J_Aron (GS) is who comes to mind for me. Pretty sure Mercuria Canada out of there and Direct Energy also have some peeps.
same as above. i heard trafigura moved their schedulers from houston to calgary over the past year
Tourmaline for sure
I'm under the impression that these offices are small satellite offices, like less than 5 in the group kinda thing
.
BP, JAron. CCI, Mercuria, MacQuarie, Suncor, Tourmaline, Uniper, Gunvor, Shell, Transalta, Petrochina, Capital Power. Canadian banks.
Only canadian bank that has a physical trading desk is Scotia i believe? The rest are more sales desks/financial speculative trading
Nah they all do (park and loans especially). None of them spec truly not their business model, anyways OP asked for everyone whos in the space.
I would add (size of presence varies) plains, TC, MS has like one guy sitting there, enmax, nrg, koch, heartland, dynasty
trafigura
Moved their ops/risk team to Calgary. Are trading physical crude arbs and renewables but not physical gas but they would be my guess to expand soon.
Ah, heard they moved a lot of people out of their Houston office, didn't realize the traders were staying.
yeah schedulers were moved for sure to calgary.still not sure why that made sense since traf doesn't have a NG (non-lng)business outside of South Texas/CFEi/Mexico
It would make even less sense to move the traders from houston-calgary
Majority of people/role change had to do with reassignment of "visas" company wide I heard. You do not really want to move traders on visas hah since they left -30 weather for a reason usually.
Trafigura moved most non-commercial seats from HTx to Calgary across all products. Great deal on the FX, dirt cheap office rents given the office RE situation in calgary, and a great talent pool that will work for less than in Houston. As of early 21 they were slated to open a metals commercial desk in toronto. You still couldnt pay me enough to work for that firm though
