Who's Actually Had the Vaccine?
So we are all wonder when it's the end of WFH and you hear all day "I think it's gonna be tied to the roll-out of vaccine". How's the roll-out and has anybody actually got it?
Anecdotally, I have a couple senior family members got it and friends who's teaching now got it as well.
Most friends in medicine have received it at this point.
Getting my first dose on Friday and my sister who is a nurse has received both doses already.
The hardest part for me was being able to actually book an appointment. Between the limited number of locations administering the vaccine and the almost instantaneous crashing of the appointment websites it was extremely tough. I'm hoping we can progressively open more locations as the weeks pass by to combat this.
How did you qualify?
In a state where those under 64 with a pre-existing condition are now eligible.
My step-dad got it from the Veterans Administration; my mother got it in the next county over (an "exurb" of D.C. that seemed to have plenty of vaccine relative to her suburban D.C. county); my brother got it because he is a public school teacher.
I was reading that there are some people who don't qualify for the vaccine yet who have been "camping out" for the vaccine--they wait at a pharmacy or other location until the end of the day and then if there is left-over vaccine that is going to get discarded anyway, they'll get the shot. That's pretty smart. The CNN article I read about it tried to sort of frame it is as "immoral" (or a symptom of white privilege that well-off people could afford to take a day off work to get a shot) but to me it's the most rational thing I've heard in the last year.
Hey Memberberries, I’ve always been meaning to ask you this. Is your wife hot?
Most of my family members who are front-line employees (medicine) have received both shots.
A few older colleagues at the office managed to get the first.
I am too young to be in any preference group. someone mentioned that management staff in a bank might be in a preferred group, I couldn't find any evidence of that. Happy to WFH and wait for now.
Unless you are a part of or frequently interact with high risk groups for COVID, why would anyone be trying to get this.
Terrible roll out in my state (SC). I am in phase 1a and have the proper credentials (I own a healthcare company), but haven't been able to book an appointment - they fill up before I have the chance to sign up. Its really frustrating - I should have had both shots by now.
