I am at work hopefully only for the AM, HR is prob not
Not a banker, on the buyside (based in Canada), but been at work all week, including Canada day (july 1st). I'll be in until 6ish today.
Im in working on an Asian transaction...apparently they dont celebrate FREEDOM so I dont get to!
Not going into the office, but doing an hour or so of work from home. Very few people are working today.
~~~~~~~~~~~ CompBanker
I am here. Last day though! Just trying to back up all of my files and models to take with me, but getting through the network security is a bitch.
Do not email all the files to yourself, they will figure it out, and they will get pissed. If your computer has a cd-rw drive, thats the best way. They probably have USB keys blocked out, no?
Will they find out if you email one or two files to yourself during the summer?
FI S&T and no. I'm in FX so its still trading, but London took over most of the shift for us so we could vaca.
Whole office is closed today!
I am putting in an hour or 2 from home. Gotta love Asian Buy-in markets.
Yes. Last summer the bank I was at sent an email during the last week reminding all SAs not to take / send in an email to themselves any models, documents, etc. I wouldn't risk it.
Several of the FT analysts had found ways to get their flash drives to work on the computer though.
They can easily figure it out, and they have software and other assorted back office people dedicated to finding this shit. One to protect their work, and secondarily for liability reasons. While I don't know for sure, anything sent internally is probably not too heavily scrutinized, then there is probably a grey list of firms that may ostensibly get emails with attachments, and then there are gmail/hotmail/.edu which are very heavily screened. Once again, never give them an excuse to boot someone "for cause" when they are looking to cut headcount and expenses.
smaller firms do this as well?
depends how small, if we are talking a mom and pop shop where the analysts set up their own computers, then no. If there is an internal IT and compliance department, most likely yes. Any firm with S&T needs pretty sophisticated monitoring systems for compliance reasons. Hell, even the telephone calls are all recorded. Correct me if I am wrong, but the monitoring technology can easily be scaled to cover the IBD as well.
I am not an analyst, just intern, but I was in office today and will work 4-5 hours tomorrow.
Just like in any story, Senior VP had 2 months to check memorandum, he is presenting it on Wednesday and he waited till last minute...
I worked 13 hours today
I worked from 10-7 today (summer analyst)...we are really short staffed here.
