Who’s Hungry?

They say, “There Ain’t No Such Thing as A Free Lunch.”

We focus, on monetary compensation, career trajectory, and the exaltation of prospective monkeys everywhere, which are all pretty cool, I guess. however this forum seems to neglect one of the most important aspects to consider when weighing offers, “how much can you eat, for free?”

While every bank discussed here is #1 on a league table one of their interns made for potential buyers, how do the firms stack up in terms of edible compensation? Allowances don’t tell the whole story (if you think they do, you probably also don’t unlever/relever Beta, you cretin). I need to know about the staff kitchens, the food courts in larger buildings, and which offices have nice receptionists that let you take some rock candy every time you walk by their desks. I guess in the interest of “objectivity” it would be cool to guesstimate the value in local currency.

So, monkeys, how much of that literal bread are you getting from your employers?

I've heard Google is the best for free food.

I've visited Bloomberg and they have a lot of nice snacks.

Air Force cafeterias aren't bad and its all you can eat for free, depending on your meal plan.

Great thread btw - this is good stuff.

Unlimited LaCroix is high on the list for me as well as food. I can easily crush a 12 pack in a day.

I've also done research in two hospitals and at one of them got free food. They had pretty good food and a cuisine theme everyday (like Sushi Mondays). I would get two free meals there per day and would completely pig out to the point that I was reported by the cafeteria cashier as going over budget (when no budget was mentioned to me). My manager in neuroscience research was alerted and she said it was fine if I go over the allotted food budget and thought the whole thing was hilarious that I was eating that much food. I didn't get much at that gig (except knowledge and experience), but had a good parking spot (better than the doctors or equal to) and free food - so was pretty happy.

1) Google

"Google’s food perks don’t stop at three totally free meals a day from their many on-campus restaurants. They also arrange for fresh fish to be delivered to the office for employees to take home, and offer free snacks in every building. One Inc. article on Google’s food perks explained, “the convenience of having food provided cannot be overstated.” Indeed, research suggests that eating regularly matters just as much for employee productivity as eating healthily"

I worked at a little PE firm my sophomore summer and they primarily do deals in food/beverage space. That place had insane snacks because they would want to support their port cos (meaning buy a bunch of their food) and a lot of potential businesses we looked at would send us food. So basically being in the food investing space is the best move for good food at work

I interned at that one FO shop, where every Friday we would get a certain local delicatesse delivered to our office and have a big "firm breakfast" plus some beer and stuff. FOs are the bomb!

As a currently employee, I can vouch for how amazing the free food at Google is. We literally have 14 gourmet cafes in the one office I work out of. Unfortunately due to COVId-19, we won't be back in office until Spring 2021. First time cooking for myself in a few years and I miss plex :( F*ck me.

I have to admit - it's an incredible pet peeve of mine when some successful company is raking in money, year after year, but can't treat their employees with anything more than free coffee (if even that).
