Why and how did you chose your field within the world of finance?

How did you realize you wanted to be in S&T, IB, etc. What drove you to choose that specific field within finance instead of another? I have interest in a few(mostly S&T and ER), and am in the recruitment process for a wide variety of internships and wanted to know why you guys decided to pursue your field.

(For context, I started out interning in politics and public policy, realized I'm more interested in the connection between policy and markets than the policy creation itself (econ major here), quickly became fascinated with markets, and realized I would be a better fit in finance)

I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences!
