Why are all the finance company representatives in financial news called "analyst" but not higher?
When you go look at finance news videos such as Yahoo finance. They sometimes discuss companies' financials with their news anchor together with another person from a well known finance company. But what I dont understand is, why is the other person from the finance company always called "analyst"?
If you look at the corporate ladder, you are only a "analyst" for 2-3 years, then your an Associate, then VP, then etc.
However, I see these company representatives aged in their 40s-50s are being called "analyst". Why did the finance news companies call them analyst instead of Associate or VP or MD?
1. If the guy analyzes something, he's an analyst
2. Normies are gonna think that VP is no. 2 after the CEO
Because Analyst is the highest externally facing title in Sellside Research. In reality there are “junior” Analysts (i.e. VPs / Directors) and “senior” Analysts (MDs).
I will even add at some buyside shops it goes Associate -> Analyst -> PM
