Why do people turn a blind eye towards racism against Asians?
Just read recently about the tragic death of Michelle Go in NYC. She was just standing in the subway waiting for her train minding her own business when a black man shoved her into the train and killed her. NYC has been beset with rising Asian hate-crimes as has much of the rest of the country (i.e. Atlanta spa killings), yet aside from the Asian community no one seems to really care beyond a few token posts in LinkedIn.
Why is it that everyone decries racism against blacks but completely ignores Asians? It's unbelievably tragic that this is the case, I personally know two girls who worked in NYC who refuse to return -- not because of Covid but because of the increased anti-Asian hate. It's really sad to see & I'm struggling to understand why people just don't care
Sadly it's because Asians are arguably the most successful racial group in the United States. So there's a lot of envy & anger at them (similar to the historical persecution of the Jews). And because of this, many people feel a sense of schadenfreude when Asians are hurt....it's messed up
Don't forget that because they are so successful they automatically get tagged as "They got it, they can handle it." by everyone else.
Ridiculous. Didn't you know blacks CAN'T be racist towards Asians? Never mind the fact that black-on-Asian crime is a widespread issue, just ignore it as it's probably fake news
No one cares about racism unless it's against blacks. Political parties don't care because blacks are multiples the size of the Asian community and other people don't care because Asians are successful so they don't get the 'savior complex' when defending them as they do the blacks
I think it would be good for people to differentiate "Asians". This is like saying to an American and a Brazilian oh hey both of you are from the Americas ! You must love hot beans !
But should that not come from Asian Americans? They should define what they want to be called and classified.
because there is one particular race that is doing it. liberals (who control the media) like to ignore black violent crime
you can bet your life if it was white people doing this it would be ALL over the news.
It's not that common, or at least apparent, and is attributed to random disturbed individuals? (Is it?) It's like uncommon diseases or homeless people, a majority people don't care about rare diseases or homelessness because they are not personally affected by them. Certainly there are some things you will not care for that for other will be a source of grief or inspiration.
But what are you looking for? What do you want? An Asian lives matter march? Just because these things aren't happening doesn't mean people don't care about them. If you feel that strongly about it, you can try to organize something to spread awareness.
The attack was horrifying but it clearly was not motivated by hate towards Asian people. The suspect tried to push someone else who was not Asian into the tracks, but she moved away. Second of all the suspect was proclaiming he was God so clearly he is some kind of mental case.

Came here to say just this.
I'm not trying to invalidate the fact that Asian hate is rampant, especially in the last 2 years, but it's clear that this was not racially motivated.
I watched the video. The guy is quite sick in the head. It was very obvious when he stuck his tongue out and claimed to be God.
She was the closest person to push and he took advantage of that. It's a horrible thing but wasn't racially motivated.
The media took it and ran with it. Black man pushes Asian woman so it must’ve been racially motivated when that clearly wasn’t the case. The scumbag did not push her because she was Asian. The guy tried to push someone else that wasn’t Asian…
Tragic story obviously but this wasn’t racially motivated, which is clearly a better headline.
In response to Danny Dimes and Drumpy, aren’t you proving the point that labeling anything as a hate crime or racism is too broad and intellectually lazy? Clearly some nuance is required in each situation so maybe not every incident with a cop and a black person should be immediately labeled as racism..
You’re probably right in this instance that it likely didn’t matter to the assailant that she was Asian but wasn’t the other potential victim a woman as well? See how you can use intersectionality to narrow down each incident in hopes of finding a pattern that confirms your existing beliefs or fits a certain mainstream narrative?
I hope you will keep this thought process in mind next time you comment something stupid on another thread in an attempt to mold whatever the situation is into something that agrees with your politics. Remember - nuance!
You want the absolute, upmost, unfiltered, non-virtue signaled answer that people are afraid to admit? Within the young demographic (where their voice and impact matters), Asians just don't hack it and don't have the appeal.
The stereotypes in hollywood/media/etc are them being nerdy, frail, social out-casts, easy targets, overtly career driven, etc. Black folk on the other hand are stereotyped as athletic, intimidating, entertainers/rappers, extremely money driven/flamboyant, funny/outgoing, etc. SO naturally, young people will side with the latter when it comes to shining a light on racial issues on society bc the latter group has more appeal to young folk that they want to "click" and belong with. Just look at how many young white dudes talk in ebonics now.
It's extremely unfortunate, I hate it, and I don't agree with it -- these steretypes peddled by hollywood and social media screw up both sides, but this is why people simply don't care about racial issues towards the Asian group as well as other similar groups.
Because unless it is a white person committing the crime it does not fit the narrative and will be memory holed promptly. The corporate media in this country has a massive left-wing slant - even Fox News has a majority of Democrats working for them contrary to what their viewers might think. The idea that the average US-citizen is any more racist than any other country's is absurd. It's just talked about much more and made to seem like a bigger issue by the aforementioned corporate institutions because it gets views and drives a broader narrative that they can use to control certain situations to their advantage.
U. Colorado Boulder Prof: Violence By Blacks Against Asians A Result Of White Supremacy
The actual stats from the Bureau of Justice in terms of interracial crime speak for themselves and paint a very different picture from what the major news networks and left-biased educational institutions would have you believe. The rate of Black-on-Asian crime is the only interracial crime outlier in terms of in-group/out-group representation - meaning that Asians are the only racial group equally or more likely to be the victim of a violent crime by a perpetrator of a different race.
This is just tragic. What dems also fail to realize is that the American flywheel is grinding to a halt. All these Asians -- with their intense focus on education & productivity -- moved here because a) their home countries were not doing well and b) America was THE place for opportunity.
Today, Southeast Asia is the fastest growing region in the world / India is on a massive secular rise & projected to be the 3rd biggest economy in a decade / China is the 2nd biggest economy also on the uptrend & projected to supplant the U.S. as the world's biggest economy in the 2030s. Not to mention remote work has unleashed innovation / hiring out of the U.S. (getting 75% of the U.S. salary while at 20% of the COL living in Mumbai for a guy who has tight knit family & friends there is a great proposition), with crypto potentially adding gasoline to this fire (not that it's necessary at this point).
All to say, why would newer cohorts of productive Asians have the same intense desire to move to the U.S.? Especially as this sort of violence is highlighted as well as the massive issues that heterogenous societies are facing? The U.S. is neglecting literally the most productive minority group in the world, period. Do they really naively believe there will be no consequences and that they can crap on one minority group to lift up another (also the most unproductive minority group in almost every country)? It's untenable
Actual Asian here - conservatives jumping to Asians' defense only in cases of violence by Black people is getting extremely old. Yes, it's an issue - Black/Asian tension is nothing new and continues to be a problem. But where were y'all when Asian kids were getting bullied for their eyes or skin color or packed lunch? How about when Hollywood fetishizes Asian women and emasculates Asian men?
Believe it or not, these kinds of issues have far larger macro impacts on a community than actual violence. Anti-Asian bias is rampant through American society and has certainly shaped the way I grew up. You aren't actually fighting racism if you only point it out to further your own political agenda.
So let's acknowledge the recent uptick in anti-Asian bias crimes and violence. But jumping in only to post Black crime statistics and ignoring every other aspect of American society that's biased against Asians is complete bad faith.
My college roommate was Nigerian. Still to this day one of my best friends. He's actually first generation and was born in the US. Both his parents are doctors and very successful. They got like a 7k sqft house with a sweet patio and two luxury SUVs.
Anyways, I went over to his place and we were just chatting until the late evening and his dad and mom both mention how much they hate this topic of racism against blacks in America. I was about to agree assuming they though white people were being racist, but nope. They said blacks in America were essentially living off the notion that slavery hundreds of years ago is the reason why they cant be successful in this country. Both my buddy and his parents said immigrants from Africa are busting their asses here and seem to become successful in one generation, but the non-immigrant black population seems to still hold onto slavery as an excuse. Anyways it seemed most African immigrant don't like the black population of America as it drags them down with it. My buddy's parents talked about their struggles and the opportunity that America had vs Nigeria. They worked their way through med school and came to the states with little to no money.
They said "Why should blacks in America act as if they are are oppressed when they have several generations to make change, but African immigrants can make a positive impact in one generation. When you tell an officer to go f*ck himself or punch him in Nigeria, you will get killed. America is no different. They need to show respect and then they will earn that respect."
I really found the dynamic of African immigrants and their thoughts on racism as well as their thoughts on African-Americans interesting. Anyways just thought I would share another viewpoint.

Sucks what happened or the lady in NY.
A lot of the hate is due to the Rona’. During the beginning I started noticing people acting quite differently to Asians.
