Why does DB IBD hate NYU?

At least for the SA cycle, they didn't recruit here for IBD...they did for ops though (which struck me as a bit odd).

Why is that odd?? is NYU deserving of Ibanking and FO positions? Simply, NYU isn't that good and according to Business week there are 14 other schools that are better than you.

Haha, that Business Week ranking is pretty funny. In terms of quantitative factors considered, it was probably accurate, but it does not consider qualitative factors. I mean really UVA is better than Wharton? BYU is better than Stern?

And yes, Stern is second tier in comparison to the ivy's + few other schools. Seems like a slap in the face to NYU students that DB only recruits for back office and not front office.

While at some point I would have loved to get into a flame-war with you, the simple fact of the matter is that while you're bitching about Jefferies, some of us were busy interviewing with the firms that do recruit at NYU for FO/ibanking.

Likely reason is, they haven't recruited at NYU in the past, so they don't do so now. Without NYU alumni there to push their school's cause, you get left out. It is hardly like there is a shortage of applicants.

Well for DB IBD, there was a girl from NYU who made it to final rounds. So I highly doubt they have anything against NYU.

I lived in NY for 4 years and came across several individuals (girls & boys) But yeah some were pleasant and the others not so much. Either way im not gonna sit here and write a story but from what i've come across they came off as tools. Moelis and Columbia i know def they give presentations for MBA program not sure for undergrad. One of our alums who majored in econ is a senior VP there.

they come off as tools because they are mostly finance geeks who didn't get into wharton. DB is the only bb that doesnt recruit at nyu...ms does and they give out plenty of offers there (as does gs, jpm, cs, ubs, and every boutique on the planet). I think a lot of people outside of nyc hate on nyu bc they believe that kids from nyu get offers simply bc they are in the city (which is def not the case). From my FT class there were 5+ nyu kids, 3 of which are absolute rock stars. Def can't say the same for some of the sub-ivies e.g. cornell & dartmouth.

NYU-Stern definitely prepares you for IBD.

DB does not recruit at NYU because their recruiters read WSO and do not want to take the chance of accidentally hiring a student whos screen name was sternmonkey.

My theory is that he single handedly scared away DB from recruiting at NYU because of the stuff he posted on WSO.

What ever happened to sternmonkey anyway? I know he changed his screen name to studentX and then to something else, but haven't really heard from him since. Hopefully his BO position at Citi works out for him.

NYU is where you go if you get rejected by all the Ivys, Stanford, MIT, Duke, Vanderbilt, WashU, Rice, the elite liberal arts schools (Williams / Amherst), and the business school at your state school (since it's so much cheaper). Because of that, Stern kids feel that they must overcompensate and talk about finance all the time to appear smart
