Lazard Groups
Hey guys,
Can anyone, with actual knowledge, provide some insight into the various M&A groups at Lazard. Specifically in terms of exit-opps, prestige, and culture of the group. I am mainly looking into consumer/retail, healthcare, TMT, and industrials. This is for the NY office. No offer offer in hand yet, but need some specific information on these groups to make a few decisions. I searched the forums but there isn't a lot of relevant and current information.
Thanks!
Also the Financial Sponsors group as well. I don't have any SB I can give but if someone can provide some info I will love you forever!
Don't know much about the Sponsors group but I do know that it was started earlier this year and they lifted a team from CS sponsors
there's no real financial sponsors group, just an senior MD and a mid-level banker, but you'll work with them no matter what group you're in (though they do sit under general banking/consumer/industrials).
Thanks. Anything else about consumer/retail, healthcare, TMT, or industrials?
Harsh culture, from what I've heard they're constantly pitching (especially healthcare). Analysts end up spending a lot of time just spinning their wheels.
dope PE exits from healthcare though, if that's your thing. sent one to metalmark this year and a second year will be going to carlyle.
^^ I can confirm that. Is MetalMark a good firm? I know its former MS PE, but is that firm people would seriously consider over MFs?
Makes sense- thanks.
The analyst that went to Metalmark was in TMT. Industrials is included in general banking (along with consumer retail). PM me if you want more information.
Does anyone have perspective on the prestige, exit ops, general experience of the Power Energy & Infrastructure group at Lazard? Thanks.
try to speak first hand with analysts over there, Lazard's a smaller firm so just one or two new associates or someone leaving could really change the culture and experience even in the same group

Wondering which groups are currently the best/strongest in Lazard NYC. Curious about prestige, recent year exits, deal flow and culture. Most important is exit opps with not too bad culture. Also how does RX look now compared to the M&A groups? Thanks in advance!
Okay - I only knew of the TMT one
bump
Healthcare, Consumer, and RX are usually considered the top groups. RX has gone through changes in recent years and has been sorta slow with the lack of RX but could heat up in the next couple years. Consumer has a terrible culture and is not likely to improve. Healthcare has been making strides and has a protected weekend every six weeks (but those are frequently rescheduled).
Industrials, TMT, and Power are pretty relaxed. FIG as well. TMT offers pretty solid exits while still having reasonable hours but that may have changed since that dude from Citi came over.
I've always heard TMT, HC, & RX generally regarded as best.
I know RX has had a lot of turnover in the past couple of years with some senior guys leaving.
Any idea where the senior guys left for? Is LAZ Rx still considered best on street after they left?
Bump. Other insights/opinions?
Bump. Curious as well. Can anyone speak to each group's deal flow, recent exits, and culture?
Generally, the groups there are good in general. You should make your decision based on your fit in the group/group culture and whether you find the industry interesting.
Also, curious to learn more about sponsors since LAZ doesn't really have much of a balance sheet. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Can someone give an accurate description of Lazard's M&A groups as well as Restructuring? Especially with respect to ranking them by deal flow, exit opportunities, and culture. Any anecdotes are appreciated. Thanks.
Bump
Healthcare, Consumer and Restructuring are generally accepted to be the top groups. Both Healthcare and Consumer are pretty intense with the hours, not sure about RX. Healthcare has made strides with implementing a protected weekend every six weeks.
Industrials, TMT and Power are more chill - Industrials kids are out every night by 9 or 10.
No idea about FIG. Real Estate extends group specific offers so you can't be placed into it.

Why does Lazard's RE IBD group recruit separately? (Originally Posted: 06/07/2012)
I was checking out my school's career center, looking at past postings. Realized that Lazard has a separate posting for their real estate group.
Does anyone know why? Someone else asked this in another thread but got no answer.
i interviewed for this group last fall. before dropping my resume, i networked w/people in the group and i asked this exact question. the answer is probably what you think it is. they want people only interested in real estate and train their analysts separately (they will pull reib analysts out of the generalist training program after just a couple weeks)
Where is Lazard's RE group located? NY?
^Yes, I think the entire group is there.
.
so they can be sure their hires are actually interested in real estate and not just a random analyst who was placed
Would you say that Lazard is interested in internships @ Development companies & REPE then?

the groups are in alphabetical order:
FIG general banking healthcare power and energy restructuring TMT
does any one know which are the top groups in terms of experience or placement?
Does Gary Parr still run FIG at Lazard? He was a FIG rainmaker...
He spoke at the analyst training session last summer so as far as I know, yes.
Going to revive this, and ask if anyone kindly has any information on the various group cultures at Lazard NYC, and which groups are best in terms of deal flow/exit opps etc? Thanks in advance.

best groups at Lazard? (Originally Posted: 02/18/2007)
anyone know what the best industry groups are at lazard? TMT? Life Sciences?
ive heard the TMT group as well as the alt finance/capital groups
TMT is good in NY, SF is more of a sensory outpost / marketing hub. FIG is strong too, as is life sciences. Again, NY being the strongest office.
Does Lazard make it easy to move around? If you don't start in NYC but eventually want to make it there is that possible?
LS is good
I don't think any 06 analyst at Lazard SF has closed a deal. if anyone else can dispute that I may be wrong.
thats weak
life sciences i hear is very strong
3rdyear is probably right. Lazard SF interns who wanted to transfer their full-time offers to NYC had to re-interview at the NY superday.
I am certain that '06 analysts at Lazard SF have closed deals, multiple deals in fact. Some have multiple lucites.
Can you name a couple prints?
Just cus you threw together a book doesn't mean you executed.
bb,MandA.3rdyear you crack me up. Who advised Gilead on it's $2.5 billion acquisition of Myogen in October? How about Solexa when it was acquired by Illumina for $600 million. These were both sourced and executed from San Francisco, and had first year analysts on them.
Not to mention a couple of IPOs and a multitude of registered directs.
Just the facts.
Right, what about TMT
