why doesn't HR consider a 3.39 gpa better than a 3.4?
think about it: anything above 3.35 rounds to 3.4. assuming that everyone with 3.4x writes it out instead of rounding down, that would make the expected value of a 3.4 = (3.4+3.35)/2 = 3.375

Because no matter what when you write it on paper 3.40 > 3.39
I highly doubt anyone at HR has the insight or inclination to carry out the calculations you mentioned above
LoL are you serious? I give you props for your reasoning though.
i think youre ignoring this EV calculaton: (GPA+HR reading your resume)/2 = them not giving a shit either way.
The upside is not capped at 3.40, it's at 3.44, assuming everyone rounds to 1 decimal place. EV of 3.4: (3.44+3.35)/2 = 3.395 > 3.39
But agree with above posters, nobody in HR does that.
this.
The best lowest GPA to have is 3.46. Because then you can round it up to 3.5, and which then rounds up to a 4.0! You can have a perfect GPA!
Learn some maths buddy, thats not how you round numbers. You can't round on top of rounding.
Swooosh...
.
yea but see the original post - i think anyone with 3.41 to 3.44 would write it out (no reason not to), so a 3.4 will just be grades between 3.35 and 3.40
because HR will think ur a retard for not rounding a 3.39 to 3.4 and ding your resume for that reason
you're very right....i guess the lesson is always round up.
I don't think you guys understood the OP's question...
He's comparing 3.4 to 3.39, not 3.40 to 3.39. Most people with a 3.44 would not write 3.4 on their resume.
His reasoning is sound, but it doesn't change the fact that nobody actually gives a crap about a 3.4 vs 3.39
Most HR questions can be answered by looking at the caliber and type of person that makes HR a career.
