Why I left banking, and gave up my 6-figure salary

I still vividly remember the call that landed me on Bay Street. It was 2006, and on an overcast October morning, someone from the investment arm of the Royal Bank of Canada offered me my dream job. As I took in the news, I stared out the window of my tiny bachelor apartment that overlooked McGill University’s sprawling campus and couldn’t help but think: I finally made it.

For as long as I can remember, I wanted to work in finance. Though Gordon Gekko wasn’t exactly my idol, I yearned to be rich like him. The funny thing is, once I got what I thought I wanted, including a robust six-figure salary in my early 20s, I wasn’t nearly as enamoured......

So after taking 2 months of sick days and traveling the world, I quit that shit and started my film production biz. Now I make 6 figures without slaving away to my corporate masters. And you should too, cause its not worth it, hard work is overrated.

Yeah, but you fail to mention your bonuses, and money you saved from this "slave job" funded your passion for film making.

Recently, for whatever reason, this site has been inundated with people who demoralize people who want to get into banking. Bro, the sole purpose of this site is to enable individuals to get into banking - the most efficient way possible...

The difference between successful people and others is largely a habit - a controlled habit of doing every task better, faster and more efficiently.

Another cry baby who's trying to troll us with his new life. Kid, you're a wuss, if you'd really be successful with this new ''biz'' of yours you wouldn't bother creating an account to write this bullshit.

Edit: Have you ever set your foot in a bank?

The mods should seriously consider removing all such "Left banking ... " posts in the future its really distracting from the purpose of this website

I was alerted to the possibility of trolling at "Bay Street" I became overly suspicious of trolling when "dream job" and "Royal Bank of Canada" were used together. I confirmed trolling at "McGill University"

^^^Agreed and lol^^^

I was seriously thinking about writing a "Why I am busting my ass to get into banking " article. Then I thought who would give a crap plus its kind of narcissistic :). It takes a special type of person to hack it in banking. It is what it is and you knew this before you took the signing bonus.
