Why Isn't There a Corporate Finance Forum?
Just out of curiosity, why is there seemingly a section for everything in finance besides the most common one of all, that is corporate finance at a F500? I thought that was weird, so any ideas/can we get one up?
Also, for corporate finance, is it true that its actually mostly accounting and not much NPV/IRR/Financial Modeling stuff usually?
Corporate finance is mostly accounting, that's correct... you may do some investment decision making that uses NPV/IRR but you won't be doing much modeling...
bc its called WALL STREET oasis.
Well, there's an entrepreneurship forum too, and that's not any more finance/WS related than corp fin.
Largely depends on where you are. Some firms, like major integrated oil cos, have in-house m&a teams larger than the energy groups of BB banks, all housed under the treasury or corporate finance banner.
Then there are others where you are basically a suck ass accountant.
while these oil companies may have larger then average corp development/m&a teams, they are still learn. When I say lean, I mean the biggest is probably 30 people tops, which includes lawyers, CPA's, etc.
boutique banking- i think you mean it's called "corporate development." I'm pretty sure busienss development is focused more on building and branchign out a company's existing products, and corporate is via inorganic growth. I've seen more job postings where corp development is specifically M&A related, whereas bus development is more on a sales route.
So basically "corporate finance" is more like "corporate accounting" and the only groups you want to do for NPV analysis is "corporate development"? Is it possible to start in "corporate finance" and then transition into "corporate development" as you gain seniority?
