Is there anything that isn't manufactured in China?
I would imagine the figures he mentioned would be pretty accurate, especially the first two.
I think many people already expected this.
On another note, I have mixed feelings about Wikileaks: On one hand I feel that it might be a valuable (and somewhat entertaining) source of information, on the other hand I somehow have a feeling that it will lead to WWIII
I know the feeling, I lean more towards Julian Assange being a major asshole that just wants to bring mass hysteria to the US.
he does have that stereotypical french twinge of despising americans, doesnt he.
Not sure I agree with his approach to dealing with classified data, but I'm going to contribute to his legal defense once PayPal or somebody starts allowing donations to it again. Think what you may about the guy- he might deserve to get pied while giving some anti-American speech- but he doesn't deserve to get railroaded by the political elite.
I also find it very irritating that the federal government insists on seeing me naked when I get on a plane but goes on a vengeance streak when some random dude posts a handful of private emails.
and so far I think he did quite well for himself as far as achieving his goal goes...I read earlier today that he is now being searched for raping 2 girls?!
They threw the rape accusations out a while ago, the swedish court decided not to press charges, and now they are pressing charges again to sum it up.
I'm concerned that it will lead to WWIII as well. Not like relations aren't fragile enough these days.
Fighting a war takes balls. So I don't think the Euro's will start anything one way or another.
Russian spends about 15-20% on it's military compared to the US and China wants to keep exporting goods and lifting its people out of poverty.
As for the Middle East, we're already fighting multinational terrorist groups, so no change there.
Has there been anything really ground breaking released at this point? Outside of the obnoxious insults geared towards other diplomats, I feel like everything released so far has been fairly obvious/run of the mill type stuff. I don't think anything significant will come out of it until he releases something substantive
He's released 800 documents out of over 250,000.
If he "disappears" or gets arrested he's blackmailing all of the countries that the unedited, raw documents would be released throughout the internet.
Right now on file sharing sites and various places on the internet there's a file insurance.aes256 which contains all of the documents in raw format. No one in the blogosphere has been able to crack it and it requires a password that Assange and some of his closest confidants have. It's assumed that if something should happen to him, he'll release the password and anyone with the file will have access to all the documents.
Besides now having access to all 250,000+ documents all the sources (some of whom are probably on CIA/US Government payrolls) plus government employees under official and non-official cover would probably be revealed all across the world.
Years of careful relationship building and personnel development that would just all go down the drain.
Still, nothing new.
Evidently reading any of these documents is enough to get you blackballed from US government employment.
Is it just me or does this whole thing sound a bit too much like that Dan Brown novel with the NSA code stuff? Digital Fortress I think it was.
Is it just me or did this guy really just release a list of sites that could significantly hurt the US if damaged or destroyed?
Arrested on rape charges in London.

We'll see how this plays out.
More importantly (than rape charges) has anyone made this guy a meme yet? He's not officially famous until he has a meme.
Is there some sort of legal defense fund I can contribute to for this guy? Is the British or Swedish ACLU taking up his case?
Assange is an idiot, but he doesn't deserve to get railroaded by a bunch of angry diplomats.

I think I'd rather wipe my ass with my bonus, but to each his own.
