Will CFA® exams be canceled this summer?

I haven't seen anything posted on here related to CFA® /corona so wanted to start a discussion as I know a lot of people who use this site are sitting for one of the exams this summer and have already invested hundreds of hours to prep for this.

If the exam is canceled or delayed 6 months that could throw away a lot of hard work. Just wondering how those of us sitting (I'm L3) should proceed in the coming weeks with every large congregation globally over the next 3 months being canceled; yet, no word from the CFA® institute. Should i put my books down and enjoy quarantine for now?

I suspect it will be cancelled / postponed. The language coming out of CFA society events seems to be trending towards the more cautious on regional stuff, and the idea of thousands of people in a poorly ventilated room constantly touching their faces might be a bad image to portray and have negative feedback. I am also unclear what their policies are for places like Italy and China that are under quarantine l.

The difference between the NBA and schools cancelling their respective events with the exams is that the CFA books these things super far in advance. Logistically it would be very onerous to change at all, but I hope that isn’t enough incentive for them to leave us hanging until the last moment.

Personally, I would be upset if it was cancelled/postponed but I would understand given all the other institutions that have made changes.

That’s what will happen I think. I’ve had 2 of my 3 late April events cancelled this week. I’m sure the 3rd will be cancelled soon.

For something in early June they’ll probably wait a little while longer.

But I say 80% it’s cancelled. That’s a high risk setup; packing a bunch of folks who’ve been stressed and sleep deprived (ie higher risk of being sick) into a room together for so many hours. Would be irresponsible to keep it unless there was a miracle drop in infections.

You wouldn’t rather take it 6 months later when you have much less chance of getting sick from others and a much better prepared hospital system by that point?

You wouldn’t really lose the studying work, it’s a lot easier to maintain info than to learn it.

Frankly CFA should just offer all the levels every 6 months anyway, it’s bullshit that they make people wait a year. It just adds false difficulty to prop up the credential. They could make it actually hard and offer it frequently, but they’d rather make it easy and instead derive difficulty by penalizing failure with a year long wait. Artificial.
