Will Consulting Firms match IB pay bumps?
Recently IB firms from across the street have been raising pay. Will MBB caliber firms follow suit or is this change just going to effect investment banking due to the unique exit opps / work-life issues that the job has?
bump, specifically for RX Consulting firms
Would be nice but I doubt it would happen given how slow things are in the restructuring space
Thought so too but wanted some reality check. A&M/Alix typically pay 85k base for 1st years anyways, which I think they recently bumped up to 90k after banks did the same. If some IBs are going to start paying 1st year analysts 100k+ just as base, I feel like they will want to remain competitive as well despite the slow market. Any thoughts?
Different industries, different payscales - I would be surprised if MBB matched.
Seems unlikely. Strategy consulting pay has never necessarily been competitive with IB and has always offered a different value proposition altogether, so I don't see why MBB would feel the need to match them right now. I also imagine that this recent push in junior pay partially stems from the recent public scrutiny that the entire investment banking industry has received regarding its treatment of junior folks, which consulting firms have not experienced nor need to respond to.
