will education/experience in non-finance business fields hurt me?
i'm a finance & marketing major, with an international business co-major. 3.65 gpa. i want to get into banking. not necessarily IBD, was hoping to get a mid-corporate banking analyst position for the summer (i'm a junior) but it didn't work out. i'm fairly certain it's to do with my lack of experience & the fact that i had a last minute phone interview that i was not at all prepared for.
i'm currently looking for a summer internship that will get me some finance experience because the only experience i currently have is working at a "finance & accounting" corporate internship (but really it was just accounting). i've also interned in marketing/business development for a small but growing entreupreneurial firm.
how do i leverage this experience for a banking internship? at this point i know i definitely want to do finance. clearly, i'm not one of those tunnel vision business school students who knew exactly what they wanted to do from day one. i experimented a little with internships in other fields, even other majors. will this hurt me? should i leave my marketing major off my resume?
