Will MBA admissions contact my references?

I was wondering if it was common practice for the admissions departments of top 10 MBA programs to contact applicants' references to ask questions, for instance regarding issues that were not covered in the references' letters of recommendation. Does this happen, and if so, how common is it? Again, I'm referring to top 10 MBA programs only.

Extremely unlikely. If there appear to be some meaningful discrepancies between what the references are saying and the rest of their package, they won't call, they'll just put your application in the "No" pile.
