Will need to move due to love. I need advice

Hey all,

I am a first time poster but long time lurker looking for advice.

A bit about myself – I graduated from one of the top Engineering schools in Canada and started my career in one of the largest bank in Canada as a Market Risk Analyst. I was on that role for 6 months before I learnt of a cancer diagnosis for my dad and moved away to be closer to him. For the past 3 years I’ve been working in the analytics field for an engineering firm. The role isn’t exactly what I was looking for in terms of what I wanted to do but it has helped me learn about the world of analytics. Fortunately, my dad kicked cancers ass about 8 months ago and made a full recovery. I’ve slowly started to look into the tech consulting field since then.

18 months ago, I met the girl of my dreams and we started a relationship that saw us move in together 9 months ago. She is a Masters’ student from the US and is currently living in Toronto while she finishes her education. Earlier today, she got a devastating call from her mom with the news that she has cancer. We don’t know how long she has left, but the doctor she has only a couple more years left. My girlfriend wants to finish her degree and move back to the US to be with her mom. Her mom currently lives in Chicago but they may move if there is a better location for getting treatment.

I am a Canadian Citizen eligible for a TN visa and wanted some advice on the possibility of moving to the US for a few years. We eventually plan to move back to Canada but we do want to spend the remaining time with my girlfriend’s mom.

When I graduated from University, I wanted to go into consulting but that didn’t go according to plan. I have some contacts at the big 4 firms and they are helping by vouching for me and I do believe that I have what it takes to join the big 4. With this new situation however, I wanted to get some insights as to where a person with my skills can land and where I should concentrate on applying to in the US.

Any advice that you can offer would be appreciated.
