Will this cost me an interview?

Hey,

I sent an e-mail to HR related to on-campus interviewing, but mistakenly addressed the campus rep by the wrong first name (think calling someone Mark instead of Melvin). I followed up with another e-mail later on apologizing for the error, but now I'm freaking out that this will be enough to make me look stupid and cost me an interview.

Am I over-reacting, or will they take it as "this retard has no attention to detail" and auto-ding me? The rub here is that i'm actually good with this kind of thing, so this is just infuriorating. Damnit....

The fact that you noticed the error and followed up may show that you actually do have attn to detail or at least make you look conscientious. But take that with a grain of salt (Im just a sophomore in college)

you are screwed man.

unless they know you and like you already, your email got to the thrash inbox faster than Obama gets a tan.

Any chance you had at a banking job has evaporated. Its a tough, tough year and I'm sorry, but mess-ups like this will kill you. I'd reccomend sending emails to all other banks you applied to and letting them know that you do have attention to detail, and that the Melvin incident (which I am sure ALL the banks have received FWDs of your email about by now) can hopefully be salvaged enough to get an interview next year or the year after.

Best of luck in the welfare line.

listen to the n00bs talk like they actually know something? Cramer the maniac said it best "THEY KNOW NOTHING!". I dont know if it cost you an interview or not but I have screwed up on a cover letter before in making a typo in the persons name.

unemployment line, huh? not so much...

check some of my other posts for where i summered and have an offer to go back to. still, i really want this position, so we'll see what happens. thanks.

Another token candidate thinking that he's big shit... your skin color might get you in the door, bro, but your lack of merit will get you weeded out relatively quickly. If you don't believe me, look up.

clearly, my lack of merit is what drove my group to extend an offer and subsequently call on an almost weekly basis to see why i haven't signed yet. and i don't think i'm particularly great, just super lucky to have gotten a spot in this enviornment. still, i suspect you'd give your left testicle to be in my position right about now. i responded the way i did because i hate it when people jump to conclusions, kind of like when people assume one is unqualified simply b/c he or she is a minority....

the closed list comes out on monday, so we'll see how things pan out. on paper, i'm in pretty good shape. there are very few (if any) kids w/ bb ibd experiance, but in this enviornment, i feel like they're just looking for reasons to ding.

Agree with Wxonwallstreet, don't beat yourself over it. If you had completely blow it and put the wrong bank and or wrong last name most banks would auto-ding. Then again, that is for bankers. If it is just a campus rep it is probably even less of a deal. If everything else is good you should still get a first round. Rock that and nobody will remember a little mistake.
