Working As Audit Client for Deloitte = C-block?
I recently submitted my resume to Deloitte. I have a competitive-enough profile (decent Ugrad, GPA, extracurriculars) plus close to 2.5 years of consulting experience at a large IT consulting firm (my projects varied a lot so I've done way more than just IT stuff) I started at right after I graduated 2.5 years ago. I was declined right off the bat by Deloitte.
One of my contacts at Deloitte told me this was perhaps due to the idea that the consulting firm I currently work at is an audit client of Deloitte. Is there any validity to this idea?
I would say probably not. The first question is are you applying for a position within Deloitte audit? (a.k.a. Deloitte ERS) If this is the case, then maybe, but still probably not. Even in situations where a candidate is working for an attest client, there are usually fairly easy ways around it that avoid a conflict of interest. Maybe someone with direct experience on the audit side of things can offer a different perspective.

I can think of a few factors: - Deloitte is treating my resume as if I'm looking to become an experienced hire, which means I would certainly fall a bit short in comparison to others who presumably have more years of W/E and/or an MBA. - I informed my contact (a strategy consultant) that I was looking to pursue opps in Deloitte S&O. Considering most of my work has been in IT (not to mention the engineering undergrad background I have), HR might have sensed an incompatibility or something. - The audit client issue is indeed legit - I probably suck at life
As much as I'm tempted to believe the latter, I don't think my profile is that weak. This isn't MBB I'm applying to, and I already have consulting experience for a large firm working for some high profile clients. That should count for something I guess. At the very least, I should have been considered for Deloitte's BTA track since I've done essentially the same work that a Deloitte BTA has.
