Working in IBD, living alone or with a roommate?

I'll be moving up to NYC in a few months. Quite excited to start as an analyst in a BB in IBD. I'm trying to decide between living alone or getting a roommate. I don't want to room with someone I don't know or potentially have problems with. I wouldn't mind getting my own place if its not too shabby, affordable, and decently close to work. But I do wonder if I will miss out on having a roommate to complain to & shoot the shit with / might get lonely from working long hours and coming home to an empty apartment.

Need some help from any and all who have lived alone while working in IBD.

Anecdotal of course, but this summer I lived alone. There were definite perks, but it did get lonely sometimes and I'm going to be living with roommates when I start full time. I have friends in the city I'm going to be working and I know what they're like so being concerned about cleanliness and whatnot won't be a problem. There seemed to be a pretty even mix between those living alone and those with roommates among the analysts at the bank I worked at.

Even if you have a roommate, you'll never see them (except maybe on Sundays?) Late hours means that when you get home, you crash. Saturdays? Crash. Sundays? Maybe shoot the shit.

Point being, don't let "social roommate life" be a factor in your decision. The only reason to get a roommate is to cut down on the insane cost of rent.

Well if you could afford it. Livin alone the best decision.

if you're too shy to bang in the same apartment as your mate, you must have had a boring time at uni.
