Worth transferring from Emory to Northwestern?

So yeah, I basically killed it my freshman year at Emory. I'm really enjoying my time here, although I kinda dislike Atlanta. Definitely would've preferred somewhere more cosmopolitan and less sprawled. I also don't like how Emory as a brand isn't really improving; it's probably the only school in the Top 25 that managed to have an acceptance rate go UP ( 23% -> 25% ).

Honestly, the classes haven't been that hard - got a 3.91 GPA without much effort and it's probably going even higher at the end of this semester. I've gained some solid leadership positions in a pre-finance group and helped co-found an organization that tries to help low-income URM students in urban Atlanta schools. I postponed rushing because I wasn't sure if I was transferring, although I have a lot of friends in fraternities. I have a great friend group and this environment has really helped me grow a lot - after downing a couple of beers I went from a horribly socially awkward/antisocial nerd in HS to a pretty chill, charismatic and outgoing guy. I also started networking with a couple of the finance boutiques in Midtown Atlanta.

I applied as a transfer to a bunch of schools and my only offers so far are Northwestern and Cornell CAS. The only school I told myself I would FOR SURE be willing to transfer into was Penn, but I don't think it's happening.

I'm picking NU over Cornell because I'm just so used to being near a major city - Chicago/Evanston>>>>>>Ithaca. Ithaca just seems miserable

is NU worth leaving Emory? I know it's probably better for recruiting, but are they WORLD'S better? Studying economics over a BBA does sound enticing.
I'll be losing all my work I did in Atlanta. It's going to be a lot harder to get leadership positions in clubs when I have to compete against people who killed it and built a reputation there since freshman year. Also, losing all my friends and have to start all over will be seriously draining and will suck so much. It stresses me out just thinking about it.

But I definitely like Northwestern as a school - it would've been nice to go here as a freshman ( got rejected ). It seems a lot more stressful and cutthroat. though - but that could be a good environment to be in for IB I guess. The D1 sports could be fun too. Problem is I won't have access to MMSS and there's no guarantee that I'll get into the Kellogg certificate program or even get close to the same GPA I have now. I could potentially transfer there and just be miserable and do even worse than I am doing now. However, I really don't want to work/live the rest of my life in the South and an opportunity to move up North definitely sounds enticing.

IDK MAN

As someone who knows a bit about NU...IBD recruitment coming out of NU is decent, probably marginally better than Emory, but not worth transferring to for just that. Keep in mind that Chicago offices are tiny (2-3 SA/class for BB) and NU doesn't fare well in NY — they are definitely more consulting focused, and place very well there.

You should just stay at Emory, as it sounds like you have a great thing going.

Tbh I'm quite surprised at the increase in Emory's acceptance rate. I mean after the whole Ebola case I would've assumed it would've gone down by a fair bit due to better exposure (even internationally).

Regardless you seem to be doing well at Emory and if it was me, I'd just stay there and not risk having to make a new social circle and potentially hating the experience. Northwestern's recruiting isn't THAT much better, however Cornell (AEM; not sure about CAS) is another story.

Maybe an Emory alum/current student can chime in about its recruiting?

I'm also heavily considering management consulting. While Emory places into most/all of the BB's and major Boutique's for IB, it really only gets people into Bain/Deloitte S&O/Accenture/PwC ( pretty much no one gets BCG/McKinsey ).

Do you think NU's worth transferring for the consulting placement? The thing is, consulting favors quantitative skills to a far greater extent that banking does, meaning that MMSS/Industrial Engineering/Kellogg Cert students probably get a large bulk of the coveted jobs/internships. As a transfer, I'm not sure if I'll have access to those programs and my quantitative skills really aren't amazing. Not really sure how a normal NU Econ major fares - could actually be on par with a Goizueta BBA.

What do you guys think?

Do it dude. If you're transferring in as a freshmen, you've basically missed nothing. . Apparently selectivity matters to you, and there's nothing wrong with that. Of course you're going to feel smarter and be around smarter kids at at school with a 10.7% acceptance rate over a school with a 25% acceptance rate. NU is a much better school than Emory, and I think you'll be happier you graduated from there.
