Would you accept an offer even if you don't want it?
Hey guys,
Quick poll/question: I have an offer from a reputable tech firm for finance (I'm very interested in tech, so working for a tech firm is good in my opinion). However, the actual work & scope of what I would be doing is not interesting to me. The financial analysis is way off point from where I'd want to be down the line and the position really doesn't excite me. I really like the company and the pay is pretty good, so those are definite pro's for accepting, but I'm very much not sure.
It's my only offer & has been my only interview so far, so I'm feeling pressed to take it. Obviously this won't be the end-all in terms of my decision, but I'm interested in hearing if you'd take it or not? (and why!)

Why is the actual scope and work not what you are looking for? My first read of this leads me to believe you are just out of school and a millenial, which means you have some dream job in your head that likely doesn't exist, at least not for entry level positions.
If you have an offer for an FP&A job at Microsoft but you want to get into VC investing down the line, then those are valid concerns.
I don't think you've provided enough information for anyone to make more than a wild guess as to whether it is a good idea for you to take the job.
Was this your only interview after applying to lots of jobs but this was the only hit? Do you have a great resume / experience / interviewing skills and therefore think you'll get more at-bats and more offers? Then maybe hold out for something better. As in my VC example, do you have the pedigree to get the kind of job you are seeking down the line, or is your most likely career to do FP&A as a career?
