Would you take your 'Dream Group' at a worse bank?
US BB SA in HC, received FT offer but not for the group (they took extremely few people). The offer was for one of the bank's top product groups but I was still extremely bummed (like cried on the phone bad) about it because I really enjoyed the work i did over summer.
Would you take the offer (especially given the current environment) or would you perhaps look to settle for a marginally worse bank (say Barclays if I am able to get an offer from FT recruiting etc) if it means I can work in that group?
It's very clearly a first world problem I get that, and a year ago I would've been ecstatic about any SA at all, but still, I am a bit apprehensive about it. I also understand that its perhaps immature to be so set on something after having only interned for a fraction of the time you would in most other years.
Thoughts?
Do you actively have an offer to the other HC group, or would need to allow your current offer expire before you even found out if you had the other offer?
If the latter, 100% take your offer now.
2, are you positive that you actually enjoyed the HC part of the role, or it was more so that you liked the team you were on? It’s another thing to consider because this other hc group might not have as great a culture as where you interned (if that’s true). And to add on to this, do you know what the culture is like at the top group? If you hear good things, might be worthwhile to accept.
I’m thinking about doing an early start and recruiting for late 2021 starts as well.
I absolutely loved the work and felt it was incredibly challenging and also interesting. The culture at the firm is known to be one of the best. The top product team is known to be a sweatshop apparently.

Barclays is better than Citi and on par with BAML in HC. I wouldn't go to CS, UBS, or DB HC though.
You got a FT offer with a top product group at a BB, so I don't see the point of trying to recruit FT just to be in HC. Seems like high-risk situation, would just be grateful for the offer and getting a FT offer at Barclays is not going to be easy, especially since they keep most of their interns.
Btw, Barclays has one of the top HC groups on the street.
