Wrestling with the Future
Hi All,
I'm new to this site and I'm not up to with all the lingo, so please bear with me. I am a long-time reader, but I finally decided to post because I really need some advice on how to proceed with my career...
A bit of background:
Graduated in May, 2015 with a degree in Economics from San Jose State University (not sure where this ranks on the target school scale). I graduated with 3.8+ GPA and some decent extra curriculars. After months of applying for Financial Analyst positions, I finally ended up taking an internship at Oracle in Redwood City. I have been working there since October, 2015. I do not have a large network of people to help me land interviews or set up potential conversations. It's time for me to start looking toward the next opportunity, but I'm not sure how to proceed.
I am hoping to land a full-time Financial Analyst position at a tech company here in the Silicon Valley, but the outlook isn't very bright at the moment. I was hoping some of you could provide some advice on how I should proceed and if I stand a chance in the ultracompetitive Silicon Valley.

My situation: I'm finishing up my senior year, and I'm signed to start an FLDP at a F500 aerospace and defense company in July. So give weight to my opinion as you see fit.
I am coming from a no name school. I got into the FLDP because I emailed the director of the program asking for an opportunity to chat about the program. I talked to the director, who talked to me and gave the the info of a current program participant. After talking to him, I got a phone screening which led to an in-person interview, which led to an offer. No recommendations from my network, no on campus recruiting, no one pushing my résumé.
You can do the same thing. You already have an internship at a tech company, so that's great. Polish up your resumé and try to tap into your alumni network from San Jose. Also send out cold emails to people by finding them on LinkedIn and figuring out their company email. You're already at Oracle, so getting into another tech company can't be too hard. Not only would I say you stand I chance, I'd say that you don't have too difficult of a path ahead of you.
Since you're already in the general area for tech, it wouldnt be too hard to find you the opportunity you want. You already have a great internship. My best advice is for you to update your linkedin profile/resume. Post your resume to job aggregating websites. Just by doing that, you will get a lot of calls from headhunters. This is from my experience.
Thanks for the advise guys! Any suggestions for polishing up the resume/linkedin profile? Perhaps some websites or general guidelines to increase my chances. Also what websites do you use to post your resume? Sorry for the incompetence ahead of time... I appreciate all the help!
