Writing Sample Requested?

Just went on an interview for a REPE analyst/associate role. At the end, the team requested I send them a writing sample… I've never been asked this before, and I'm just confused with what to send. Obviously all my write-ups for my current role are confidential… even if blacked out I feel uncomfortable. Additionally, I've been out of school for a couple years now and can't just send in any real estate related case study samples/projects, right?

Any comment/advice is helpful, thanks.

For IB I've actually used old college essays (2 years old, looking for full time out of school) - Ask and if they say that's fine, use that.

Best thing to do is ask for clarification on what they want.

A quick email on exactly what they're looking for. Because if you send them a college essay you wrote but what they really want is a mock-up investment analysis/overview, you're going to look dumb.

Writing Sample Ideas (Originally Posted: 11/13/2017)

Need a business relating writing sample to bring to a final round interview this week. Unfortunately cleared out material from previous coursework that could have been useful. Trying to crowd source some ideas and ultimately select a topic tonight. Any ideas?

Writing Samples?? (Originally Posted: 05/16/2017)

I had a very great phone call this afternoon with a hedge fund. He thought my credentials were fantastic and I was able to persuade to him how I am different than a person with a 4.0 from Berkeley.

He asked for me to do some research on supplemental readings AND writing samples...

I am graduating this weekend, and we were never told what a writing sample is... Any advice on where to start? I did not write many individual papers while in school, a lot of group papers. And I know that is inappropriate to submit a group paper.

Advice please

Writing sample basics (Originally Posted: 10/21/2010)

Consulting firm asked for a writing sample demonstrating both quant and qual abilities.

I have this behavioral economics/game theory research paper but im not particularly proud of it.

have some good philosophy papers that employ some formal logic analyses-- nothing too fancy.

also have various samples of pretty good writing but not quant focus.

im looking for your thoughts on what I should use and what the basic rules are for writing samples.

Technical Writing Example (Originally Posted: 02/27/2015)

I have been asked to provide a technical writing example as a part of the interview process for a research analyst position. Can anyone shed some light on what the subject of this example should be or provide an example of what they may be looking for? Thanks.

What is a Writing Sample?? (Originally Posted: 03/16/2017)

This may sound like a silly question but when a description says please provide a copy of your cover letter, resume and writing sample, what exactly is a writing sample? Could I just use a report from school?

Writing samples can be everything from a basic report, to an essay, or contribution. For interviews at some firms I have done in the past, I typed up an analytical paperwork on current topics, or technical writing.

Sounds like you have it figured out. Once I had to write a market section on a property during an interview. I was discombobulated at first like what do you want me to do? They were just checking to make sure you know how to read and write.
