WSO Happy Hour in NYC - July
In light of monty09's Houston steak and poker night thread, I thought I'd make one for New York.
Anyone down to meet up for happy hour/dinner/drinks during one of the first weekends in July (8-10th, 16-18th)? I hate to call it a networking event since that sounds too formal and I'm more interested in meeting some new people and having a good time, but if you want to come to grow your rolodex, there's nothing wrong with that.
Coming from out of state, I'm not very familiar with the happy hour scene in the city, so throw out some suggestions if you have any. Not sure if a Friday happy hour would work given our hours (it's training hours though), but I've never heard of Saturday happy hours.
We can set a firm date/location as it gets closer to July. Bring your new analyst buddies, roommates, friends living in the city, girlfriends/boyfriends, moms, etc., and we'll have a good time.
All that will show up are the annoying college kids.
Sounds good.
I'd go if it was in late June but I'll be in Russia for about 3 weeks starting July 8. Have fun...next time I'll show up in a monkey suit.

hmm this is not a bad idea. would be better if it was on a weekend and no one was wearing suits? most guys that wear suits at bars/lounges are Douche-bags.
If it's in mid-town, I might be interested.
Unfortunately, people will be expecting industry folks to show up and hand out interviews like they're candy. Please bear in mind that most of us can't do that unless we're at the VP+ level. Assuming everyone understands that some of us are here just to show up for a few drinks and just meet in person some of the folks we type with every day, we can make it work.
Some people might prefer weekdays. Most firms are b-cazsh on Fridays, and there's a number of after-work-kinda bars where you won't be a douche if you're wearing a dress shirt and slacks- and you would fit in wearing jeans or shorts and any kind of collared shirt, too.
And afterwards please post description of PJC.
^^^^ Serious anger issues.
My response is to simply shoot them an odd look and then make it look like I'm trying not to laugh at them. Easy way to get someone who takes themselves too seriously to relax a little and try to fit in a little more. Managed to get a few people to take out pocket hankies or take off jackets in the past.
Friday happy hours would probably work best. A bar in midtown would be good. Just gotta make sure its not all prospective monkeys hoping to hit up the experience monkeys for interviews.
you're really not as important as you think - just sayin bro
Another thing is that it should be a diverse group professionally, not just a bunch of traders jawing about the market or bankers about the latest deal
owned.
I'm down, sounds fun. (I'm starting ft this summer, fwiw)
you all are going to be fucking disappointed when you meet each other in person....
lol
well, if there is a 13 year old girl trying to meet me, then only one of us will wake up the next morning disappointed...
After reading some of the posts in this thread (but more generally, on this site), I might have to agree. The quality of WSO users has plummeted since I joined this site back in '07. Guys in the industry were replaced with kids who became too old for collegeconfidential.com, all of whom apparently go to HYP and work for GS TMT or MS M&A.
May have to stick with the proven method of meeting friends through friends.
im pretty sure that someone here will find out that the person they have trashed on the board every day was an Associate in their group.
haha, loving the contempt for college kids
i am gonna fly down there, if this happy hour means a possible chance to get a glimpse of Sir PiperJaffrayChiang
can a high school student with a fake ID join?
Just go to Joshua Tree, you'll fit right in.
If you're going to do it, do it sometime mid/late-July after first year analysts & associates start.
All the summer analysts have training that week of June 7th through the 11th, so having it scheduled in that time frame would enable us to go. I suppose I can't speak for all the SAs, but I would be going simply for a good time.
your idea of a good time is hanging out with strangers you met on the internet? jesus christ
I feel like people would be more hesitant to insult each other without reservation once they meet in person...and that is half the fun of WSO.
I would go though.
wanna meet up beginning of next week?!
Has anything been confirmed for this event? Depending on the roster I might make my way up for the event.
Never even saw this thread... hah I'd go to meet you guys I could care less about panhandling for a job
Though I guess then my true identity would be revealed
I'd go just to sit in the corner and laugh at the ensuing comedy
