WSO Weekly Wrap-Up (4/16-4/22)

In case you missed them, here're some of last week's most popular topics:

PE Recruiting Failure
Post By @Zosa"

Is it possible to salvage my effort in breaking into a PE firm during recruitment season in 2016 / 2017? How will recruiters react knowing that I participated in their recruitment process this year? And is it possible to interview again at a fund (where you made it to the final round) in future?

AMA: Non-target --> 2x SA at BB --> FinTech Corp Dev --> Corp Dev at a large company
Post By @LukeWarmBanana"

While serving my notice, I received a call from a former boss (from a firm during one of my four undergraduate internships), asking me to join their M&A/ Corporate Development team in a relatively senior position. This company grew in market capitalization to more than $200billion and the overall package was very attractive (relative to what the EB was offering me). With the guidance of this board and my mentors, I chose the Corporate Development gig. This decision was hands down the right choice; I could not be happier in my current role.

Still no MD after 30+ Years
Post By @Patz"

My wife has worked for a big IB in New York for over 30 years and she is 60 years old. Being an Executive Director, her goal is to become a Managing Director. Every year, she gets passed over for MD. From my experience, not becoming a MD even after serving for 30 years is bad news. Do you guys have any advice on how my wife can make the move or feedback on her current situation?

Prestige Debate
Post By @NDARE"

This post comes down to this fundamental question, "Can the prestige of an undergraduate school justify the debt you take on?"

Insight into the minds of WSO members
Post By @QGKZ"

I am sure that most of you are vaguely aware of the Millennium Prizes in mathematics. In your mind, how 'successful' are those striving to solve these renown problems? How do you view these individuals? How do you view their contribution to humanity?

Banking Scene in Asia - what's the future?
Post By @econmaster"

I have been following league tables in Asia for a while, and it seems that they have become increasingly dominated by Chinese banks (not just CICC and Citic, but also firms like GF Securities and Haitong securities). What does this mean for all BBs in Asia, or the banking scene in Asia? What is the landscape going to be like five to ten years down the road? Which banks/BBs are best positioned to be the king of Asia in the long run?

IB Cultures In Different Countries
Post By @etx"

I have been wondering for a while about the overarching cultural differences (including firm specific differences) between different countries. Can anyone enlighten me and other prospective bankers?

iBankers that do recruiting, or networking events, what do you enjoy talking about?
Post By @ILLINI-LaneTech"

I am attending JP Morgan's Early Advantage Program and there will be a lot of networking. So for bankers who have participated in similar events, what were some good questions that you have received in the past that helped a student stick out?

1-Page Resume vs 2-Pages Question
Post By @ASMGDA1"

Is a two-page resume bad and sending the signal that you do not know what is going on when applying for jobs? Also, can I exclude a graduate degree? Lastly, is it alright for me to use LaTeX to write my CV before sending to employers as a PDF?
