WTF is a "white ally"?

Aight Saturday night rant time.

For those wondering why don't I do something else on a Saturday night, I have a 10K time trial tomorrow morning so kindly fuck off thx.

I'm sure many companies are hosting "racial justice" discussions. It's a legitimate and important discussion but the approaches people take are just so cringe and definitely does not help the cause at all.

Exactly WTF is a "white ally"? Does that mean that if you're not Black or White, you don't have to care? Is it some kind of a guilt trap? Are they secretly telling us that you're either Black or White and if you're Asian, Middle Eastern, Native American, Indian, or whatever you have to choose btw the 2? Do they even know that the world isn't just made up of Negroids and Caucasoids? Mongoloids exist too, hello?

Also why are they distinguishing people's race in a fight against racism? If racism is rooted in attempts to judge people by their race, exactly how does it help fight racism to judge people based on their race? Irony x100. Fight racism with racism? Some big wig German philosopher once said, "Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster".

What's next? Are they gonna start telling me that my job is racist because using AI in finance is racist?  Are they gonna start telling me that the results and predictions I derived from my data models are racist and "white" (looking at you Google and FB for already doing this and giving researchers a hard time).

For fuck's sake, I met a data scientist at one of the BBs yesterday and this guy was into all this shit about "why using some data features are actually racist". Like WTF dude? No wonder why your models are performing so badly.

Ready to pay those reparations? It’s silly how some these people play the victim even though they have never been through what they seek reparations for. I get that some minorities are at a disadvantage and they need help, but this bullshit ain’t it. Tearing down every little thing that is perceived as racist is a good way to tear down society. The people who spout this bullshit are hypocrites and they don’t even realize it.

It is no longer enough to simply be a decent person who minds their own business. Liberals believe you must now acknowledge that simply existing as a white person is an evil racist act and your mere presence disadvantages the “oppressed” class.

I wonder where this leads eventually... have seen a number of people I believed to be (mostly) sane endorse this white guilt religion on social media over the past few months.

Play victim? Can we not pretend like an entire race of people weren't shipped across the Atlantic in cages, shackled and sold off to slave masters to be beaten / raped / used, and then treated like 2nd class citizens for over 4 centuries? Can we not pretend like 150 years of slavery and an additional 250 years of jim crow didn't have a lasting, compounding impact on black people? The ills of the descendants of American chattel slavery are in fact real and rectifying past transgressions (whether by reparations or some other means) should at least be considered. Generational trauma and poverty (caused by our own government) do exist.

“You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”
My professor is a white ally, proud to be a self loathing white person. It’s all bullshit. She couldn’t believe me (an ex-muslim) had never faced some sort of racism or discrimination when it came to applying for jobs, colleges, among other things. Perhaps people said shit behind my back but I’ve never been held back by the “racist white people” or their “racist institutions” I’ve done alright so far. She couldn’t believe I was more in line with the center right than with the woke liberals. Ironically, it was very condescending of her to think I didn’t have own opinions.

She probably thinks you're an alien. That's honestly how most white "liberals" (you know the fake kind) see me as. On one hand, I abhor racism and have friends of different races. Yet they can't understand why I'd refuse to acknowledge their ridiculous "woke" beliefs. Once they hear that I'm fairly conservative, MY GOD how shocked they are.

Like am I supposed to be their good token liberal Asian guy (that's a minority within a minority actually)?

Fortunately, real liberals who also think "wokeness" is ridiculous are still the majority (silent majority I guess). After all Biden is the presidential candidate, not Bernie or Warren.

I'm pretty far right and hate all AA/woke liberals but discrimination does exist. I just believe in the WEB Du Bois talented tenth argument of hard work, self-help and group networks to lift people of your background vs handouts and reverse discrimination. To argue it doesn't exist is unintelligent. The argument is about the best way to tackle.

I agree. Thing is all these woke people are actually hurting their own cause. How ironic. They like to talk about MLK Jr. yet they are completely antithetical to his messages judging people by their race.

Maybe wso should make a new forum dedicated to politics/social issues - these things are not irrelevant to the fields we are in. Might also attract some more people who aren’t finance but in other fields that sometimes overlap with finance.

To be clear, the "woke" PC police, the exact same people who coined the term "white ally", are invading the world of data science.

They want to control what algorithms we can use and how we use them.

They tell us an algorithm is biased when basic math tells you it's the data not the algorithm.

They tell us a model can't be used because it's "biased" when our entire purpose is about minimizing bias as much as possible.

They tell us that we can't use this data because it's "discriminatory". Well guess what geniuses, you're literally trying to "discriminate" what data we can use, which will create "bias" in the model.

They're humanities majors who don't even know what an integral is. I don't care what some PrOfFeSoR oF AfRICaN-AmERiCaN stUdIeS At PrInCeToN said about racial bias in AI. She also doesn't even know what an integral is. GTFO of my turf.

You know what's kind of scary? Being told my whole life in school that slavery had ended in America and then realizing later on that there's actually more slaves globally right now than ever recorded in history apparently. I find that to be very strange, because while it's great to learn about history, I was never even told that it still goes on in other countries (and in usa supposedly (sex trafficking)) or that maybe we could do something about it to help.

Money can purchase freedom, if you have the guts to buy it
