- Years of evolution where most men went hunting, fishing, or toiling the fields

  • years of evolution where most men went hunting, fishing, or toiling the fields
  • very little communication involved, and if you did speak it was with people you knew well anyway
  • silent types are totally acceptable, sometimes even respected for their ability to focus
  • fast forward to today
  • almost every normal avenue of employment demands good communication skills and being a people person
  • society just switched, what gives?

You know what's also weird? The people that we've elected as our leaders - they just decided that a plant that grows from the ground - "oh yeah we're just going to throw people in cages for growing and smoking, eating the edibles of that plant." Even though it grows out of the ground from nature. What's crazy to me about that is like, why that plant? Why did they just pick a plant to dislike? They didn't outlaw daisies. They didn't outlaw lilies. They didn't outlaw sunflowers. They didn't outlaw roses. Who decided on that plant?

Also it's so crazy how big 'networking' has become. It's like personal relationships have become commoditized and we've forgotten that like, people are worth more than their value to you, people are worth more than what they can do for you. A human life just has so much more value than you can pin down to how many linkedin connections you have. I mean don't get me wrong I've got 1000+ connections, but does that make me more valuable as a human being than someone with only 10 connections? Probably. Who am I to judge?

And then everyone nowadays talks about how sales is the most important skill that you can have and that's just such a greasy opinion. We live in a society. And the society that we live in just encourages bullshitting - it thrives on bullshit, especially in the business world. As students, we are the youth who are supposed to solve the problems, but that's not how it works in practice. Everyone you've ever heard talk to you about a case competition has told you that the presentation is just as important as the actual content. Just think about that for a second. Take another second. Okay now where is the flaw there? Teaches us that you can say anything you want as long as you look pretty whilst saying it.

Oh yea semi related to original post - put your head down and work hard is just a meme that people want to believe is how the world actually works because it sounds better that way. 'Hah, those stupid jocks and bullies aren't going to be on top in the long run' is just something nerds get told so they don't go haywire.

Another thing I've been thinking about is like, for some reason, I can't put a part of my body, which I grew, into a part of somebody else's body, which they grew, if they haven't passed around the sun 18 times. If they haven't had 365 days 18 times. And for some reason now I'm a bad person because we came up with that arbitrary amount of time to decide when I was allowed to put a part of my body into a part of their body? What if they're off by just like, I don't know, 10 years. 10 too few rotations around the sun and now I'm not allowed to fall in love?

One more thing, semi related. If I'm trying to express my love for somebody and I'm just trying to put a part of my body into a part of their body - if they don't happen to make the right vibrations with their vocal cords, now I'm some sort of monster? Because they didn't happen to make a certain sound out of their esophagus that indicates a certain amount of respect for the decision that I'm making, now I'm some sort of monster? Who decided on like, these little Anglo Saxon syllables 'yes' and 'no'? If 'yes' meant 'no' and they said 'yes', would that mean 'no'? It's all so confusing. Doesn't even matter though when it comes down to it.
