It's going to be an uphill battle, specifically because, as you mentioned, you haven't done any corporate-level transactions. What you want is a career change. Your best bet is b-school.

Thanks for the reply. I do realize that it's gonna be a uphill battle, and I'm networking hard now. Also, it seems that BX, Carlyle, and other megafunds all have a real estate division that invests in properties rather than companies. So if I stick with my firm and work on more property deals, is it gonna help?
as has been discussed before here, most of those guys recruit former IBD analysts. however, those shops are not the be-all, end-all. There are definitely smaller but high-paying funds out there whose employees have prior experience at the property level (as opposed to wall street experience).
