Read on the FT that the best paid was earning some USD 1.5bn, and two others had also earned more than a billion! I think it was Renaissance Capital that paid best, am not sure though.
Agreed, I'm sure average managers are doing well Problem is, most are "doing well" b/c of the 2, not the 20 (e.g., I'd do pretty well on a 2/20 structure by raising $1B in putting it in index funds. In fact I'd probably beat half of those "average" managers)
there are apparently 6000 hedge funds... your saying at 600 of the top, the average person is making 300mm a year??? If you look at a top 100 list the 100th name is like a 3bn fund which is no where near the 300mm mark.
I'm not so sure of that, if you've got as much money as Cohen does and don't spend much of it/can afford almost literally whatever you want, you don't get up at 6.30am to make more money.

On second thought I should have put this in the hedge fund section...I don't see any way to delete it now though, sorry.

Very impressive!.. but the better question would be: How much does the AVERAGE hedge-fund manager make?
i think you question is answered within the title of the thread.
Where do i sign up?
Do you think they do it for the money?

ill bet its a lot lower
that's the upper echelon, but even for top 25% or even top 10% that's a lot of cash

The $363 mil figure was an average of the top 26 hedge fund managers. Out of around 7000-8000. Number 26 made $130mil.
