10'' drop. Where to get a suit?
I wear a 40R jacket but have a 30'' waist. According to American clothing retailers I'm some kind of freak, I guess.
Most suits are sold with a 6'' - 7'' drop. I can't find any brands that offer a 10'' drop. Any suggestions from the more athletic among us?
welcome to the club, 42L with a 30" waist. I would honestly suggest buying a brand you like and getting it tailored, if you're in NYC, PM and I'll recommend the spot where I get my stuff done.
So when you buy something do you not have any alterations done in store? Just bring it direct to the tailor?
I'm actually in Chicago if anyone knows someone good.
This is where suit separates come into play. You can purchase the jacket and pants of the same fabric individually. I thought I had it bad with a 7 or 8 inch drop. Damn.
I have the same problem: 41 - 31/32. I wait until Brooks Brothers has a 50% off sale (twice per year) and buy this - http://www.brooksbrothers.com/specialorder/select_tailored.tem. If you are built like me ask for a Madison 1818 cut, it should run about $450. The only downside is that the suit is 98% superwool 120 and 2% dupont synthetic (but at least it wrinkles less).
I don't think your link worked.
I can't find where they moved it to, but you can only buy it in store, not online. http://www.brooksbrothers.com/mtm-availability/mtm-availability,default… My previous comment was also incorrect, I meant to say Milano, not Madison.
buy Theory - the jacket / pants are sold as seperates
Theory is a great brand.
i am a 44/35, and have found it easier to either buy from a place that sells suit separates, or if you are in the market for a really high end suit that doesnt offer those, just get the pants tailored. even if it's expensive, it should be marginal if you're spending 1k + on the suit. i always find it surprising that the standard drop is like 6... our country is getting so fat
actually just buy a made to measure suit (1199 regular or 899.99 on sale) i have a 11 inch drop , 42 l jacket, 31 waist and its a waste of money tobuy a 6-8 inch drop and tailor, a made to measure will fit you like a glove and in the 800+ range for suits you want a perfect fit, you pic your fabric, your designer, and your pattern, what more can you ask? i paid 1115 after taxes for my z zegna made to measure, navy suits with ticket pockets and a speacial iphone pocket iside my jacket.
I am now 42/32. Get the Fitzgerald from BB and get it tailored at the store. Madison is too baggy, Milano is too narrow.
Wearing a 40R and having a 30" waist is ridiculous. Hit the gym, eat protein, and put on weight. Seriously.
With those measurements I am sure they do hit the gym
What an idiot.
The drop is a direct result from hitting the gym! I've been doing gymnastics since a young age and since my late teens been lifting weights, as a result, I've developed a 10 inch drop that is a nightmare when I go shopping. The solution is always a tailored fit but that requires a generous budget.
Sale on MTM suits here, for those interested: https://huckberry.com/store/suitable
