Mid-Tier (Oracle Gold/Platinum/Silver Partners) EPM Consulting vs Big 4 IT Advisory
what are some of the pro's and con's between the two? I'm interviewing with more than one company and am expecting to hear decisions soon.
One of them happens to be a Big Four approaching me for EPM practice within the IT Advisory department.
My background is BI/EPM consulting, with emphasis on Oracle apps.
Eventually, I'm looking to transition from Consulting -> PE/VC. I'm also doing a startup on the side during the weekend and after work on weekdays.
Troll? Find another position. Both of those will permanently ruin your career (I did Big4 IT -> startup consultancy), its stuck with me to this day. You're almost better off getting more schooling/holding out.
What's your story? care to share it on here? Did you try to get back into Big 4 IT to become a manager or something?
Highly highly doubt that either of those will lead to PE/VC without some kind of major inflection point eg. b-sch.
Ok, I don't mind keep working in the corporate world. Like becoming a project manager while making 120~150k per year. But I was hoping if someone can give me more details of the picture on what it's like doing EPM/IT consulting for 5-10+ years. What are other options if not Project Manager?
This forum doesn't seem very welcoming for IT professionals. What's a good alternative board or a IT counterpart of WSO?

Had a moment of disillusionment. Actually things are going fairly well. IT Consulting is fine, its just not going to make you a mil a year at 30. You could end up staring down 150K and equity, which isn't a bad gig at 28.
How are the salaries of these mid-tier IT consulting firms and Big Four IT consulting practices compared to Management Consulting with MBB?
I see the salaries with the MBB can be as high as 200k or up to 800k. http://managementconsulted.com/summer-internship/the-truth-behind-consu…
But you have to make it to Principal's and Partner's level. What about Principal in IT? Partner with IT-focused firms like Accenture?
Salary depends. How much money can you bring in to the firm?
well, that's pretty much like the golden thumb of rule in life. You constantly have to sell yourself, either to get business, get a job, or get a girl.
So I'm not sure why most people on WSO put up so much on strategy consulting and put down so much on IT consulting.
Pretty sure that for both kinds of consulting, you can't dip into the 7 figure pay unless you reach the C-level.
