Who has ever had a shot of alcohol before interview?

Anyone wanna fess up? I am a bit nervous about a upcoming interview and I am wondering (though probably not going to do it) who has actually took a shot of whisky or vodka to calm themselves down?

It would be hilarious if it actually helped getting the job.

Wasn't a finance/banking/consulting interview, but I took one before an interview for a scholarship back in college. Turned out fine, probably didn't affect anything one way or the other. If anything, you'll go from being nervous about the interviewer thinking you're a fucking weirdo to nervous about him or her smelling alcohol on your breath and thinking you're a fucking degenerate instead. It's probably a wash either way.

Also, even though it's somewhat obvious, if you're the type of person who would be materially affected by a single shot, DON'T fucking do it.

I went to UChicago, and they are on the quarter system. I walk out of my last final winter quarter of junior year, so we all shotgunned beers in the quad to celebrate the start of spring break. Get back to my house, have a few more beers, and then my phone alarm goes off to remind me of the phone interview I had in 30 minutes. It was for a private banking SA spot at a BB. They loved me on the phone, said they liked my upbeat attitude, and flew me out for a superday. Got the internship, and now as I type this I'm at my desk for the same job because I got the FT offer.

I wouldn't recommend it for a face-to-face interview, or anything overly technical though. But for a phone interview focusing on fit if it helps calm your nerves go for it.

I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Sure did. Why do you ask?

Did it several times. Usually two shots. One time met up for 4-6 beers at lunch before a coffee network meeting. After the meeting he convinced the partners to bring me in for an interview even though they were 90% through the process. I always do it before phone interviews - because this:

They loved me on the phone, said they liked my upbeat attitude, and flew me out for a superday.

Has always been the result.

I suppose it has to do with how you as person handle liquor.
