Revise Cover Letter from Internship -> Full-Time?
Is it necessary to revise cover letters for MBB's for full-time if I got interviews during internship recruiting? Are most people who get summer interviews (but don't get offers) invited back for at least first-rounds in the fall, provided they did SOMETHING that summer? This is for target schools.
Definitely yes. It takes no time at all to do it. And while I think CV's are of limited utility (I don't read them), I wouldn't want to submit one to someone who does and then be like "why didn't he update it" ---> into trash.
I think you meant a cover letter, not a CV (=Curriculum Vitae).
Most of the time, the cover letters aren't read (at least at my firm and a bunch of others that I know of). But when it is read, it'd weird if you don't talk about your most recent experience, which probably is also the most significant on your resume.
Are you guaranteed a first round interview because you got a first round the year before? No. The second round summer candidates that were Beth promising are tracked and contacted. At the same time, some second round candidates might not be invited back. Not common, but it happens if your academic performance fell significantly or if you didn't do anything significant during the junior summer.
But because you have gone through first rounds, you have more contacts you can leverage. So reach out to them, remind them who you are, network, etc.
Bump - also, any thoughts on the second question?
Simple answer yes. the standards are (a hair) lower for full time than intern recruiting (because there are more spots). My understanding is that they only track and court rejected applicants who made it to the second round.
